New member looking for ECU help

Hey guys!

I just recently became the proud owner of an 2003 G35 coupe, automatic transmission. it already has a catback exhaust, HFCs, and a high flow intake.

besides the brake issues i've been working on with my car, i've been wondering how i can tune my car without paying an obscene amount or driving excessively far.
It is to my knowledge after reading many forums that my ECU (production date 04/03) is notoriously difficult to tune. Since i live in a CARB state and also just dont have infinite money for a standalone, i've been researching piggybacks and direct ECU tuning.
Before i get into the mess that is the old style Nissan ECU, are there are simpler piggybacks that will allow me to complete a proper tune up without costing me a fortune (if done right of course)?
Now about tuning my ecu without a piggyback. It is to my knowledge that the early 2003 g35, and most cars around this time used an SH7058 microcontroller as the brains of the ECU. I was able to find a definition map for this, but i don't know if i'm missing any details before i dig my hands into ROM Raider and at home street tuning. If this chipset is so common as well, what makes this ECU so much harder to tune? is it possible to tune it myself with just tuning programs and an obdii cable, or do i have to invest in more? i know the answer is somewhere on these forums but some of the threads are so long and go on so many tangents that i just need a direct answer to my problem.

TLDR: i wanna tune my early 03 g35 but i dont know the steps i have to take. i am willing to learn and research but my phone can only take me so far in terms of tuning advice.

Not sure where you got your information from but ALL 2003 G35 coupes are tuneable with Uprev. You do have to relocate a pin on the OBD2 plug before we can flash it but that's pretty easy. Only the sedans (and then only the early ones) have the old style ECU that we can't tune. If you want to tune it yourself you will need the more expensive "tuner version", which gives you access to the tuning side of the software so you can do it all yourself. I also offer etuning or mail in flashes if you don't want to try figure it out yourself.

Since you have to pass CARB I would recommend getting another ECU from a junked car, then tune with that one. We can completely bypass NATS (nissan anti theft system) with Uprev so its plug n play.. then whenever you have to go SMOG you just swap in your original and no ones the wiser.
