Here's my '05 Athens Blue 6MT

Chino is a long haul from me so I've never made it out there mainly because I live 2300 miles away in So Fla heh. My location says "SoCal forum"
I'll make it out to Cali one day, I promise =)

Here are a few shots of my Lapis Blue Box.
- Top view (if you're wondering...I was Blue Man for Halloween last year).
- On Pacific Coast Highway near Central California this past Labor Day weekend.
- Highway 25, a great stretch of road (twisties as well as long, empty straightaways) south of San Jose. One of my favorite drives in the Box. I'm sure I'd enjoy it as well in the G.
As you might be able to see...Lapis Blue has a hint of purple in some lighting conditions. Otherwise, it's a fairly dark shade of blue.

Which Porsche are you thinking about in the future?
Which Porsche are you thinking about in the future? As for my next P-car...ideally, I'd like to get into a Carrera, but that may be a while down the road. Dream (potentially affordable) car is a 911 Twin Turbo, but no complaints here if it *has* to be standard Carrera or C4S. Or another Box. Or a Cayman. Or even a Cayenne (those things haul ***...especially the TT version).

Btw how are Porsches on reliability? I've been TOYING with the idea of picking up a 00/01 996, but don't want to go through a maintenance nightmare. If I bought another car, it would more than likely be an M3 with warranty, but for the same money the P-car is worth giving it a try.

As for reliability...I'd worry a bit about having that car w/o a factory warranty. Although I haven't had major problems with mine, many 986's (last gen Box) have had Rear Main Seal (RMS) leaks. Many folks have been able to get new engines, but I'm sure that's an arm and a leg w/o a warranty. If you search the Boxster boards, it's a fairly common topic. Not sure which years to watch out for, though. I've had things here and there, covered under warranty. Biggest thing was having my convertible top replaced because the plastic window started to split at the seams (only 1" in length), but still...shouldn't happen after 3 years, especially since I took good care of it.
As for maintenance, mine's supposed to be serviced every 15k miles (just one oil change a year). Can be pricey, though...15k was ~$400, 30k was ~$700. Don't remember was 45k was. YMMV.
Not sure what an 00/01 996 would run. I know you can get a Box like mine ('02, good condition) for somwhere around $30k. 996/Carrera would maybe be in the 40k's?
M3's one of my favorites as well. But, after growing up in Japan, I still am biased towards Japanese reliability and quality control. German cars, in a sense, have more 'soul', though (IMHO).
Thanks for your interest.

Jorell: thanks a lot for the pictures and review. The color is gorgeous indeed. I bet there will be a lot of things you're going to miss about the Box, but the G is a great car in its own league and I hope it keeps you happy. I've never had the pleasure to test drive a Porsche, but I will do so soon, even though I doubt I'd end up with a 911 this time around. An 00/01 996 would run $40-45k and so would an 03 M3 with warranty which pretty much makes my choice clear. I came from another Nissan, but I totally agree that BMWs have more soul.
Haven't gotten your e-mail and I'll keep bothering you for pics of both cars until you post some to get me off your back

As I understand, the only loaded, Athens blue, 6MT coupe on the West Coast. After browsing dealers inventories the past few weeks, I'm pretty sure this is a fairly safe statement. Very happy with my choice of car, color, and options.
I'm coming from an '02 Porsche Boxster, so it's quite a different drive/experience driving that compared to the G. I haven't driven the G much the since I've picked it up, as I still have my Box for another few weeks. I love that car and am gonna miss the Porsche/convertible experience, but I need something that can seat four. The G fits the bill, but I can definitely see another Porsche in my future.
As for mods...I haven't really looked into anything I want to do, but I have noticed that one's money can go a long way with mods, especially compared to my Box. For now, though, it will stay stock until I figure out what I might want to splurge on.
A couple of my coworkers browse and sometimes post on this site...one's an owner of a midnight (or is it twilight?) blue coupe, and the other is currently looking for a loaded, Lakeshore Slate 6MT. He's ran into some a-hole dealers here in LA, unfortunately.
Anyways, I'll try and attach a picture of my G. Maybe I'll take pictures of both of my rides together while I still have the Box.
Thanks.
By the way, I'm in LA, on the westside.

Thats a sweet ride man! My business partner just picked up the exact combo you got ... Athens blue is my second favourite color for a G (after black of course) ... Its funny as we got them parked next to one another at work and a lot of people slow down as they go by to check them out ... will have a photoshoot of the two soon.
Good luck with it and have fun
