Tint tickets

I have a questions for folks in NJ.
Is tint considered a primary offense or secondary? In other words, can a cop stop you just because of a tint? Or, can they only give you a ticket for tint if they pull you over for something else?

Re: Tint tickets

I can only tell you for MD. In MD they can pull you over for tint alone and write you a ticket for it. Usually they'll pull you over and hope for something bigger but if not they can write you up for that and other things. For example, I don't have a front plate even though I'm required to. Haven't been caught yet but you never know *knock on wood*.

Re: Tint tickets

I don't have a front plate either. I live in MD. I went to the StrictlyZ web sight which sells products for both the 350z and the G35sc. I bought the attachment bracket for the front plate. Although it lives in my trunk and has never been attached, I'm hoping if I get pulled over I can explain that it "that I just got it and had not had the chance to install it yet" We'll see!

Re: Tint tickets

They stopped you because of tint? I know you can get tickets, but are they allowed to stop you just because of tint, or do you have to brake some other law?

Re: Tint tickets

come on guys, be realistic, cops can stop you for any reason, haven't you heard of 'driver profiling from nj state trooper'? are you going to question a cop for 'you can not ticket me only for my tint windows?' , besides, tinted auto windows are illegal in NJ.

Re: Tint tickets

not all tinted windows are illegal. back seat tints are legal.

yes, they profile, but then they commissioned study. had black, white and hispanic on panel. hidden camera took pictures of drivers who were speeding. panel then had to determine race. results were kept if all 3 agreed on race, then if only 2 agreed. this was to prove police profiled improperly.

when the results were ready, they elected not to "publicly" release findings. it proved that certain races did speed more than others.

in essence, it proved the profiling was accurate, though not politically correct.

cop can pull over saying you swerved or did something else wrong, and elected not to give you the ticket. he can then check windows.

Re: Tint tickets

I am not asking what will happen in real life, I just want to know what the law is. If it's primary offense, then I would definitely think twice about getting my windows tinted. So, the question again is, is it primary or secondary offense, by law? If it's a secondary offense, then I'll just try not to brake any other law, in order not to get pulled over. I just need to know the law, that's all.
And Studly, I am not sure about your G being the most babied G on board. I think you have a very good competition, in that regard, right here in E. Brunswick .

Re: Tint tickets

ok zorro

i've had my 6mtC almost a month and half now. it is garage kept, never driven in rain, mist or even when the roads are wet.

i have about 325 miles on it and have washed it twice already (don't forget, only driven when dry out). every couple of days, i go into my garage and dust it off to remove any dust that might have blown into garage. wheels are cleaned after every other use.

interior has been cleaned. i have rubber mats over the carpeted mats. i still have the original dealer paper mats over the rubber ones.

do i get the crown?

Re: Tint tickets

We are very close, but the original paper mats might put you over the top .
I am the same way with my G, but had to take the paper mats out, since I have 5,000 miles (in 7 months). No one is allowed to have any drinks or food in the car. I wipe the car off everytime I drive it. Soak the bugs and get them out, as soon as I see one. Clean off the windshield with Stoner Glass, after each ride. Wheels get cleaned after each ride as well. I apply Zaino's Z2 once every two months, and Z6 after each wash! The car is washed every other weekend. Only comes out on a shiny day.
I think it can be considered as the most babied G . The only thing you have going for you is the low mileage, but my work is 40 miles away, so I have no choice but put 200 miles a week, if I want to drive the car at all .
Glad to see I am not the only crazy guy around.

Re: Tint tickets

If you're not a NJ resident and you're only driving through NJ (lets say from NY where tint is legal) can they still ticket you for the tint?

nycgspot:
nope

If your plates aren't jersey, they can't touch you for that. Doesn't even matter what drivers license you have.

Twlight blue/Willow 6mt on order. Options: Sunroof.
