NJ: Large Insurance Hike

Received my policy renewal. Rate hike of about 12%.

I have had no tickets, accidents, claims of any kind. Can't understand the rate hike.

Insuring the coupe and a 9 year old sedan (no collision or comp on the sedan). Rate asked is almost $2200 annual for both.

I'm in Bergen Ct.

Could anyone recommand where I could go for something better?

IMO, unless you can get NJ manufacturers insurance, you're paying premo. I had them but unfortunately was dropped before my G.

Palisades Insurance. They brought the policy from The Hartford when Hartford left the State a year ago.

What I don't understand is the large hike without my having any incidents whatsoever.

NJ is the worst state in the nation for auto insurance. You can thank all the fraudlent and inflated claims for the increase. Everybody in NJ got big increases this year - you can shop around but there arent many carriers in NJ....if you have a house or apt policy to go with the auto, i can get you a quote. Re: NJ: Large Insurance Hike

I live in Old Bridge area of New Jersey...Insured thru liberty mutual and I have my G35 and my wifes G20 all the discounts and reductions applicable and my G is about 1900 a year...and I'm in my 50's!!!!! this is by far the worst state to get insurance in....the horsepower rating is the key in the high rate I'm sure...my wifes car is 1100 so I basically pay 800 more for the extra horses...I'm not complaining ....I'd probably pay 3000 a year for a corvette...20ld4this

Re: NJ: Large Insurance Hike

I am concerned about these rates. I am moving from Colorado to Jersey and when I called Allstate since they are the company i have now they gave me a quote of 1200 full coverage 500 deductable for the year. I pay 1160 in Colorado so it was practically the same. I am not sure why my rates are more reasonable. I am moving to Mount Laurel does that make any difference?

Yes, county makes a significant difference. Hudson and Essex take beating due to higher theft rates. Bergen and Trenton are not much better. The only way to lower insurance in NJ are to turn 25 and get married. Mine dropped about 35%. Check out NJ Cure, not that bad. www.njcure.com

You could always buy a "vacation house" in another state and make it your primary residence, (I can't afford it, but some can).
