Prepping for the winter season
Hi,
I'm from LA and will be moving to Boston for about a year. I've convinced myself that I will bring my 7 month old 07 G sedan there. Any advise on what I should do to prep for the upcoming winter season? So far all I have plan is to pickup a set of 17in rims with snow tires. Should I get some type of rust proofing spray on the car? Also what other damages could I expect from going through the winter. Thanks.

Rust proofing is useless... like everyone else said, just wash your car after snow storms... although you'll probably never keep the car clean in the winter if it's a daily driver.. they use a lot of salt on the roads here.. the salt and sand never gets totally washed away until late April...
April and May you have to watch out for potholes... HUGE potholes.. the spring thaw is not too kind on the roads.. I bent a Volk forged rim pretty bad 2 years ago on a pothole.
May and June .. heavy pollen season.. your car will be covered in yellow for most of those two months lol
The drivers are mostly as.sholes here too.. very aggressive, non courteous drivers .. I've driven in about 25 of the states (including NYC) and Mass is still the worst in my eyes.. get yourself a good GPS if you don't have one.. the roads here make no sense
welcome to Mass!

winter prep in my house consists off:
1) Install winter wheels
2) Jack up my suspension until it looks like a 4x4
3) wheel aligment
4) Winter ready detail(Claybar, Glaze, Sealant, Collinite super Wax.
5) All weather Fllor Mats
6) Detail interior one more time before winter
7) open up my coolant control valve
I think that covers it

You will be fine with winter wheels and snows.
As others said:
-winter floor mats
-winter windshield washer antifreeze
-good snow brush/scraper
-Give the car and wheels a good coat of wax before the season starts.
-At the end of the season give the car a good hosing underneath in all the cracks and crevices to wash out the winter dirt/salt.
-I also always carry an extra pair of boots, gloves, hat, and blanket in the trunk if anything should happen when driving in the winter.
Rust proofing really isn't necessary on todays cars unless you plan on keeping the car for a very long time (~10years or more).
