NJ license plate laws & enforcment

NJ G drivers,

what are the laws concerning the front license plate on our car?

for those who do not mount their license plate on the front bumper... how often are you harrassed?....

if you don't put the plate on the bumper, what options do you have other than the passenger-side window?

Thank you in advance for any and all help!!

I know it is required that you have a front license plate.

I drove around for a good 3 months before i put my front plate on. Not because i got a ticket for it but just because i didnt want to get pulled over for it.

Stillen has a license plate mount that screws into your tow hitch on the front of the car. Its a buck 25 or something like that. That way you can take your plate of anytime you want and not have to worry about holes in your bumper

been driving non front plate for 2 years now. only gotten 1 ticket for it. they normally don't turn on the lights and siren just for no plates, if u get pull over for speeding or whatever serious accounts, theyll do a walk around and nail u with no front plate.

East Coast & West Coast........!

We have the same laws here in Ca. about front license plates. Even a
metermaid will give us tickets for not having a front plate. I haven't had
a front plate on any of my cars in the last 15 years and zero violations.
That being said (I probably shouldn't have) I could get a ticket at any
time. I'm very carefull where I park and keep my fingers crossed!

cool, I'll look for the stillen plate cover... I don't want to drill holes in my bumper and was looking for options...

What about putting the plate in the front window??? I've seen it, but is it legal?... any ideas on where the regulations are posted? I'll search the DMV site in the meantime, but I'm curious if anyone has already found the info.

If you dont have a front plate you can get a ticket. I was pulled over for it twice in a 3 month span but never got a ticket. I had a PBA card so I am not sure how much it would be.

There is no other option besides the front bumper. Even if you put it on your front dash you can still get a ticket. NJ sucks.

There's a DIY for making a front mount without drilling holes.

You always run the risk of being ticketed for not having your front plate. With that said, you have a couple of options.....

a. leave the plate off and take your chances

b. Check either CLockwork on this site, or Stillen. They both have mounts that do not require drilling holes. You actually bolt into the tow hook inside your bumper cover. This allows you to mount the plate without having to drill holes.

c. If you don't feel like spending $$$ for the above mounts, you can do what I did to get through inspection.
Check out my thread on this....

Boston is the same. I haven't had my front plate on since September and I've been okay. The police don't bother me. I am driving the mother of all police magnets now that it has snowed, 99 Civic Hatch with an Apexi N1, tint and no front plate and I have been doing good so far (knocking on wood)

Why worry, the G still look good even there's a plate at the front bumpers, and probaby wont loose any values with the front plate anyway.

someone got into a fender bender and...

friend got into a fender bender and the cop asked him where his license plate went... he told the officer it fell off.... the kid is going to put it on just to be safe... as someone said they most likely won't put on their sirens for it... but if they are mean... they might give you a ticket if you are speeding or something like that.
