Calling all Philly peeps.....

Hello,

I recently moved to the Flemington area of New Jersey. I have wanted for some time to take my wife in to Philly for either a lunch or maybe an evening dinner.

Do any of you have any places you might recommend? All I know of Philly is "Geno's" Cheesesteak place.

We're not big drinkers and far from youngsters....Middle age couple.
So, if anyone could possible recommend a nice Italian or maybe seafood/steak house in the Philadelphia area, it would be greatly appreciated.

If you have an address or street, it would make it easier to locate. i would just put the information into the Garmin and head on out.

Thanks for your help in advance
Dennis

Sure! I have lived here for almost 10 years, so let me know what kind of food you are interested in, what kind of prices, BYOB, etc. There are tons of places.

What kind of budget are you looking at? Prices can range greatly in the city.

For Steakhouse's I would say:
Barclay Prime - 18th and Locust
Fogo De Chao - 13th and Chestnut
Capital Grille - 13th and Chestnut

Seafood:
Buddakan - 3rd and Chestnut
The Oceanaire - 7th and Chestnut
Morimoto - 7th & Chestnut

American:
Fork - 3rd and Market
Jones - 7th and Chestnut

I work for an architectural firm that designs a lot of restaurants. We did the Pluckemin Inn in Bedminster which isn't too far from you. It is a pretty high end steakhouse with a great wine list. They also have a bar menu which is pretty good. We also designed a Italian place called CoccoLa which is on 206 a few miles below the circle in Raritan. The food is supposed to be good, but I have heard they are not very busy. It is kind of in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks for your feedback,

We don't really drink, so a wine list or great bar is not a priority.

However, we do like food, preferrably with out any MSG...my wife has a food alergy to Monosodium Glutamate.

I don't want to spend a car payment on dinner, but I'm fine with a $100 dinner without drinks.....

Any other help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok here goes, all these places have websites, just google them:

- Devon Seafood Grill - 18th & Walnut, right off Rittenhouse Square Park
- Continental - 2nd & Market (it is a martini bar, but great food, I love the chilean sea bass & lobster mashed potatoes)
- Swanky Bubbles - Front St right off of Market (champagne bar, but good food and nice atmosphere)
- Spasso's (Italian) right near Swanky Bubbles
- Monk's - 16th & Spruce (different kinds of beer from all over, good mussels, burgers, etc. rustic kinda place)
- Sang Kee - 9th & Vine, great little chinese noodle house (no MSG)
- Maggiano's - 12th & Filbert - family style Italian

This is just for starters. I love sushi but I think you said you want all your food cooked. I will come back with some more.

If your wife's allergic to MSG, I would stay away from any kind of Chinese food.

If you are interested in Brazilian, there is a place called Fogo de Chao.

Here is the website: http://www.fogodechao.com/locations/Philadelphia.htm
