Re: my dad and a tshirt = o m g
You use a sponge? They always get caught in the crevices. I prefer Durex!
If you have little experience with swirl mark removal, buy the Zaino (full kit) and do it up! Use the Z5 until all swirl marks and scratches are removed. About 2-5 coats! After the Z5, follow up with Z2 which will bring out the shine! Just don't do what I did. I put it on too heavy! When you think it's going on too thin, apply half as much! You should be able to get the 2-3 coats of Z5 in one day if you use the ZFX. If not, one coat per day! Do not use the ZFX all the time, 1-2 times per year, that's it!
I would think that the shirt couldn't cause too much damage, especially if it was clean and the tags were removed!
Just be prepared, no matter what you do, you will eventually get swirl marks in your car.You get wax build up, etc. It happens, but after a while, you'll become a pro at minimizing them! GForce is correct with his advice of not getting looking at your G from too close! That's why I love/hate waxing my G. I love the way it looks after, but during i'm like.....ooooh what's that....and that.....this wasn't here last time....and what about.........Yeah those are the perks with black! Then again, no one outshines the Black G's at any meet!!!
Always wash the car with clean mitts/sponges
Always have a mitt/sponge dedicated solely to the wheels. Some peeps by the really cheap sponges and dispose after each wash.
Always wash from the top down and it wouldn't hurt to have aanother mitt/sponge solely for the lower parts of the car.

I would recommend Mothers CARNAUBA wax.. if you have hair line scratches it goes away... I've waxed my car only twice and still looks flawless! However, Black cars suck ...not only does it get dirty easily but you can notice even the finest scratches!!!!! haha but dont get me wrong.. black does look good clean!

A couple of things that I can offer based on information I've gotten from a couple of hard core personal detailers and one professional detailer I know . . .
you should probably start w/ a Dawn (dish washing liquid) wash of your entire car to remove any old wax or grease from your finish. After rinsing the car clean, you will want to clay bar the car while it's still wet (using some kind of car was soap as a lubricant). After claying, Dawn wash again. Then wash the car with a car wash soap (like Zaino's) and dry.
Diesel mentioned Z5. While I'm sure it definately helps, Z5 is really more of a filler. It will fill in some of the swirls, but it will not remove them as it's non-abrasive.
If you want to remove the marks, then you'll have to use a slight abrasive like Meguirs Number 9. A good friend of mine who keeps his car pristine recommends it.

After using something like #9, you'll then have to wash the car again and then wax/protect it with the protectant of your choice. Based on what I've seen (because I'm too lazy to do it yet), I think Zaino would be the best choice [using Diesel's or puff's car as examples). A lot of work, but well worth it for the end result.
If you don't want to go hard core Zaino, you can use NXT. It doesn't have anywhere near the six month durability of Zaino (more likely 1 month for NXT), but it does offer decent surface protection and a phenomenal shine).

Hope this helps.
