Re: double din

holy crap, you guys install turbos and all this other crap into our G's, but you're afraid to do the double din install.

Wow, I'm completely the opposite. I've taken apart my dash so often now people now get surprised when they see it put together.

Yet I got scared just putting in my own grounding wire kit.

Re: double din

hey afro,
u know how? mind sharing the info with me?

the shops we deal with does turbo, stereo and etc....but having them install this dbl din for g35 is something they haven't done yet..and i don't want them to try it first with mine. bc from what i have heard...it requires some harness and wires b/c of the ac/controller something.

Re: double din

Correct, before you can swap out for a double-din setup, you need all the parts. Based on your car, it can be different. Nav, no Nav, willow, graphite, etc.

Then you will need a Nissan aftermarket HU adapter and Nissan antenna adapter.

But it's no secret on how to install it....

The first time, it took me about 12 hours pacing myself. Second time, I cranked it out in two hours.

You need BOTH of those for the antenna.. Because nissan doesn't like standard antenna connections....

I picked both of them up from my local circuit city.

As for the headunit harness... www.crutchfield.com probably has it, but I'm not sure.

Good luck with this.

Re: double din

you know what, I'm an idiot, you don't need both.

I only needed both because I had an FM modulator...

40NI10 is all you need

Re: double din

No. You can not order them from nissan. Well, you can, only if Nissan will import "Japan only" parts for you.

Otherwise you will have to go through
J's Garage Export
Yoshitaka Ikeda yosi@j-garage.com

This is what over two dozen of us have done without a single problem. If you don't have the built in NAV, I can give you a list of all the parts you will need. If you do have NAV, then you would need to email Yoshi and he might be able to help you out with exact parts for that. But once you have the parts, I can help you out with the installation on a weekend or something, but the instructions posted were pretty diesel.

Re: double din

What color is your center console? Willow, Graphite, or Titanium?

Re: double din

Just in case you are interested, I'll throw this out there. The audio shop near me did a similar install with the Kenwood unit and they didn't need the double din conversion piece. They didn't have pics when I asked, but they said they mounted it in the stock stereo spot and modified the "titanium trim to fit the deck. In addition they refabricated the trim where they needed to and everything looked completely stock. If you want more info, I can shoot you their info. They are located in Hicksville, not too far from Eastern.

Re: double din

True... that is possible, but they would have still needed to import the japanese A/C controller. The controls for the stock radio, CD player, cassette player, and HVAC are all on the same single piece control board. Unless they figured out how to cut the circuit board in half. Unfortunately, it's the japanese A/C controller that is responsible for 70% of the total kit's cost.

Re: double din

They could be pulling my chain too, but they have always been very honest with me in the past. I specifically asked if I would need the double din conversion and they said no, so who the hell knows. They said the install would take pretty much the full day so who knows! I think someone has pics of it w/o using the double din in here somewhere.
Puff - how did you make out at the detailing thang? I had to bounce early just as they were getting to the good stuff!
