It finally snowed in NJ

It finally happened here in NJ. We got about three inches last night and I am happy to report that the G handled just as good as any other rear wheel drive car I have had with my winter set-up.

I had to take it easy in the unplowed areas, I was hard shifting and braking on the plowed roads to test them out and overall the Blizzak L22's and the 17" rims did what they are suppose to do.

You still have to be cautious, It's a light car and this was a light snow, I've seen worse.

The only real problem I had was cringing every time I was hit by a flying plume of slush by Speed Racer in an SUV.

We're getting your snow now in Boston..

Don't forget about the salt trucks driving by throwing salt at you as well as the slush

I took it out to test how the G did in the snow..

Excellent! I have OEM 18's but with Avon M550 All Seasons, and I can say that they handle perfect in about 2 inches of snow. You of course have to take it easy, but its certainly bearable. I know that if I had on the Pilots, I would have been dead.

In my Vette I have summer tires (Eagle F1) and if I am to even give a little more gas than I am supposed to in a straight line, the car will fishtail.

Where are you from???...

I'm buying snow tires real soon but if I can use the stock OEM 18" rims that would be great.. but I'll be running snow tires not all seasons for the snow.

As of now I'm going with cheap 17" wheels and tire package but let me know how you do with 18"

That's good to hear. I'm about to buy LM-22's for my 18" Kazera wheels myself from a member here.

2Evolved, there should be no problem using OEM 18" wheels with winter tires... it shouldn't be any different than using 17" wheels.

Crap... I already ordered from tirerack.com... I wonder if I can cancel my order because I would save alot of money just buying the tires.. or maybe I should just leave it since they will mount and balance the wheels for me..

Michilen WS-50 Plus 17" rims for 964 bucks.. not too bad I guess.

i've never driven RWD on snow before...today was a humbling experience! 20mph on the slightest of turns and the car is extremely unstable...i'm used to blasting thru it with throttle on a subaru 2.5 and WRX. my driving style definately has to change! my question is will snows make it dramatically better or should i borrow someone's car (lame)? but it's there should i need it. i have a set of Z33 rims to mount on, but i'm skeptical on the performance improvement of snows granted the G35 is naturally unstable in snow all together. what do you guys think? i was aiming for the LM22s.

17" would be better than the 18". The more profile on the tire the better in snow. Especially when it comes to those winter pot holes.

Do you have snow tires on your G?...

I've never driven my G yet in the snow but I'm coming from an Evo so I use cruise threw snow like nothing as well..

RWD is going to be a change for me but from my experiences in winter driving I should... be okay.. hopefully. There is some people here who complain about driving the G in snow but compared to too many positive reviews.. its more like you gotta try and see for yourself instead of listening to other people's comments.

I guess I can keep the set up then.. the more help the better.

I would also want to put a nice set of 12's in the trunk but I'm broke as of recent due to a unexpected total loss and winter tires plus purchasing a car.

50lbs of dog food will just have to do....

i had a gung ho attitude of "run what you brung" when i bought the G, but driving in the snow with my summer tires still on was unnerving. i have limited experience in drifting, but an unstable car in snow is totally different. instead of attacking you're definately on the defense. perhaps i'll take the plunge and buy a set of LM22s for my Z rims as originally planned. $700 worth of snowtires is a lot better than wrecking!

2Evolved, keep the setup you've ordered, it will work great! That mounting and balancing will add up in a hurry (both $ and wear on your wheels), not to mention that your nice summer wheels do not get the winter beating from salt and sand. BTW, subtract from the price of your setup the extra miles that you did not put on those expensive max performance summer tires. In the end, you're going to look back on it as money well-spent.

Same here. I took the car out (I'm using the M550 A/S also) and I found that the car performed well.
