Outrageous insurance prices in NJ
Outrageous insurance prices in NJ
All along I thought I was paying $2,000/year for insurance. Today, I just got my bill and realized that it was $2,000 for half a year!!! I thought I could live with $2,000, but $4,000 is ridiculous! What is everyone else paying for full coverage with a $500 deductable in NJ? I was added to my dad's insurance, thinking it would be cheaper, but $4,000 is too much. I am thinking of finding some other insurance, and would like to know your thoughts. I am with Allstate right now. Please HELP!
Re: Outrageous insurance prices in NJ
personally, i love NJ manufacturers insurance co.
they have the cheapest rates and best svc in the state. they don't reaise your rates for tix or accidents.
couple conditions to join.
1. 23 or older
2. no accidents or tix in past 3 years.

Re: Outrageous insurance prices in NJ
Thanks studly, I'll give them a call.
Although, I just negotiated a ticket at the court, recently. I made an illigal turn, and got a ticket. Went to the court, and they reduced it to no points fine, so I am not sure if that will satisfy the second condition for joining NJ manufacturers insurance. I'll give them a buzz tomorrow. Thanks for your tip.
P.S. I am still pissed at the $4,000 rate.

oh, you also have to work for a company signed up with them. many companies are, just don't advertise it. they are affiliated with a business awareness group.
i am 41, divorced, have two cars, 01 saturn, 02 mazda pickup. full coverage. i think i pay 1300-1400 for the pair.

I pay about 3500 a year, 24year old registered in rockland county, NY. I live in northern Jersey now though. No tickets or points ever. I am afraid to check how much it would be to register it at my new address. I am with State Farm.
Re: Outrageous insurance prices in NJ
After I got my G coupe less than a month ago, I was floored by what my insurance company wanted to charge me for adding this car. Its criminal. They keep saying that its a "high performance" car, etc. I pay $3,000 and am 33 years old with a good record. I think this is way too much especially since 2 years ago I was paying $1,900 for a CLK 430. What gives?
Shop around for insurance. Too many of these companies are taking advantage that there is not that much competition in NJ. As consumers, we have to show them they are wrong and their rates have to be more reasonable if they want to keep our business.
Currently, I am actively looking for a new insurance company . . .

Re: Outrageous insurance prices in NJ
Today, I found out that I can't use NJ Manufacturers Insurance, since I don't work for the right company - go figure. I'll continue looking tomorrow. The only reason I went with allstate is because I was quoted $2,000 rate, but it seems like that was half a year. First Trenton Insurance offered $3,000. Worst come to worst I will go back to them. Although I think I can get something for around $2,000. I'll call metlife tomorrow, since they supposedly offer a 30% discount for the employees of our company.

Is Geico in NJ? If they are, I'd give them a call... I have had nothing but good experiences with them. For what it's worth: Me and my wife live in south west CT and will pay a total of $2400/year when I get my G. We allready have a 2003 VW Jetta 1.8T.

Thanks guys, I'll be doing some serious homework on insurance tomorrow. By the time I am done, they will wish that they had given me a cheaper quote. I might just have to move out of Jersey.

Re: Outrageous insurance prices in NJ
Thanks jasijay, I've requested a quote online, and should be hearing back from them soon. The other problem with NJ is it's been very difficult to obtain a quote from some of these companies. MetLife is sending me an application for quote, which I need to fill out and send it back through regular mail. Every day that goes by I keep loosing money on the crazy rate with Allstate (hey, that actually rhymes)...
Thanks again for everyone's help.

Ways to lower your Insurance:
* Increase your deductible
* Have a good driving record
* Decline the tow reimbursement, loss usage coverages ... those unnecessary coverage
* Register your car at a 'low crime' area
* Switch to a G35 Seden
* Grow some gray hair and lie about your age
* Get marry, have a family and some kids
AllState has one of the most outrageous rates. I am with AIG and paying > $1300 a year full coverage with $1000 deductible.

Re: Outrageous insurance prices in NJ
Wow! Is NJ different than the other 49 states? I live in VA and pay less than $900 a year. My six month premium is only $430.
My car costs the same as your car. If it is damaged, it costs the same to repair in VA as it does in NJ. I know we have lousy drivers here, but 4 grand a year is excessive.

Re: Outrageous insurance prices in NJ
I got a quote from njcure of about 2,400 per year. That's more reasonable, but it's still a bit steep. I'll call Allstate tomorrow, and see if they are willing to beat the quote from njcure.
BTW, Geiko is not in NJ. I got another quote from Metlife, and they wanted $8,000 for six months. That's right, for six months. No typos there. At that rate, it's probably better to buy a house in Pennsylvania, and get a lot cheaper insurance rate. I am now closer to my goal of finding something close to $2,000.
Jasijay, thanks for your tip regarding njcure.
Thanks everyone for their help.
