My tires are almost bald at 14k miles. Is this normal?

I went in to West Chester Infiniti today to get my car inspected (PA required), and they wouldn't pass my inspection unless I get my rear tires changed. Front has about 7/32" left, and rear only 1/32" left. They were the stock Bridgestone tires on the 05' coupe.
My car only had about 14k miles on em', 11 months old, and I wasn't driving like a bat out of hell (okay, maybe sometimes...), but generally, I don't push those tires to the limit. I do drive 80 miles everyday to go back and forth to work.
So is my expectation too high to think that the tires would last me at least 20-25k miles, and not 14k miles?????????? And to change those same tires again, it would cost me $770 for both rear tires. I think it's ridiculous. I'm so not changing to that same Bridgestone tires again. If I do, it means, I have to keep changing tires every single year.
Sooooo, any tire recommendations anyone? Something that would last longer than those Bridgestone....

Thanks for letting me vent. This suxs!

Lynn

Summer tires, I think. I'm not sure if they're rated all season.

225/40R19 Y-rated front tire
245/40R19 Y-rated rear tire

I feel your pain buddy. My 2 front tires were feathered and I have about the same amount of mileage (like 14,500 or so). Went to STS and replaced them with some Toyo proxis for $200/piece. The guy said the two back ones are getting down too so they'll be replaced in the next month or so. But mine are only the 18's so yours I assume will probably be a little bit more. Call around and get prices.

Well, I just checked out tirerack.com and they don't carry any all seasons in for your wheels. It makes sense, though. 19's are performance wheels and should be equiped with performance summer tires. I think you're going to have a hard time finding all seasons in that size. You might have to get summer tires and have a separate set of wheels with dedicated snow tires for the winter. It'll cost more now, but your car will drive better in the snow and since you won't be running the 19's year round (April - December), the tires will last a little longer. Just a suggestion.

I too have the same issues with my ride. This is what i am looking to replace my tires with. They are alternate sizes that according to tirerack.com should also fit. they are a little wider and a little smaller profile, but are about as close as you can get for a set of all season high preformance tires.

Has anyone else ran this set up? would love to hear reviews on them.

The reality of owning this car is changing the tires about every 15,000 mi. You can definitely get a harder compound but you give up performance. I just turned 60,000 mi and just added my fourth set of tires. Granted, I'm in FL where the roads have crushed shells added to the pavement to eat soft compounds even quicker! The road noise when the fronts feather is the killer!
