Anyone been harrased by cops yet?

As you already know, the police have been cracking down on modified vehicles and potential "street racers". Here in the Sacramento area, the crackdown has moved up in terms of priority since an accident occured a couple of weeks ago. One person was killed when the 2 Camaros were racing down the street. One of them struck an old late 80s honda civic (this happened a couple of blocks away from my house).

A few days later I was watching the news and they had a story on how cops were on the look out for modified cars. They were pulling over civics with nothing but aftermarket wheels and checking under their hoods.

I haven't been pulled over yet, and I have passed by a few cop cars; though I am worried. I do fit the description in terms of appearance: lowered, aftermarket wheels, exhaust. I do have headers under the hood, but i should pass the visual test since they are buried in there and are brushed stainless steel (as opposed to polished)

My buddy says I shouldn't worry but because it is an Infiniti, but I'm pretty sure a cop will pull me over one day. My buddy, who drives a C6 vette (with an intake and exhaust), is also worried, but cops will probably just look at him and think "nice car" and move on. It seems the police are just cracking down on imports (funny that 2 Camaros involved in street racing triggered this). Though quite a few young domestic owners participate in the same activites as well, not to mention they have more power under their hoods.

Maybe I should put on my front license plate

yeap, put them on so that gives them one less reason to pull you over. The cops are pulling a lot of people over in that area now and also there's more police presence since the accident.

Yup. I'm more than nervous to drive by cops now. It's absolutely nerve racking. I got my tint ticket bout 3 weeks ago, so that's one less thing they can hassle me for. Still no front plate, but I might just put that in this weekend. Clear corners are gone, but I still got the BBK, Nismos, and exhaust, which are all visual cues for them. Either way, don't drive crazy. That's what catches their attention the most.

Yeah, I read your thread. It's unfortunate you can't enjoy your car how you want to.

I would think it is a good idea to have your front license plate on. Our G's muffle s create that "wonderful" "Gmmmm" noise that really attract these cop's ears. Dont want to give them any reason to stop you, they always looking for more funding from our tickects.

ps. I was in San Jose highway and saw couple old junkie cars speed up like there is no tomorrow. I feel like these cars can fly off the pavement toward the concrete soundwall. I am sure these cars have no airbags but it wont help if thing happend anyway!!! Hmmmm

What happened? I've been a bit worried as well due to the body kit, no front plate, exhaust, and tinted windows. I have passed by a few cops, any maybe because I still have stock wheels on, they haven't harassed me yet (knock on wood) Due to my job, I do quite a bit of driving all over Sacramento and after reading these posts, I'm a bit on edge.

Funny thing is that I was debating between a new stereo or rims. If I'm going to get harassed everywhere I go, I'm starting to lean more towards the deck.

No shane, it doesn't involve any body cavity search. But they did make me pop the off when I'm all stock.

I was at the wrong place at the wrong time because there was a lot of cops in that area this morning. 4 motorcycle cop pulling people left and right this morning.

my job takes me up and down the valley as well as into the bay, so I'm farily weary of any cops. Worst place in my opinion is the I-80 connector between I-5 and Highway 50. There is one CHP officer in particular who is a serious pain in my *** and my car isn't heavily modded. 2 speeding tickets from the same guy for less than 10 MPH over, in the last 9 months, plus bi monthly grief on my window tint, so I just completely avoid the area now.

Did they say what they are looking for? What exactly are illegal mods?

I would look into a good radar detector........mine has saved me quite a bit of cash and headache. I used to get at least 1-2 tickets a few years before....since the radar...only 1 in 2 years and thats because the G was in the shop and I forgot to bring the radar to my loaner.
