Just got back from the track....

sup fellow members

i just got back from Infineon Wednesday night drags for the first time and i think i did pretty well for my first time out. i just need some advice on how to get a quicker time which means what kind of mods should i do? All i have right now is a 350z intake tube... and i was running my stock 17s with goodyears on them and my tire pressure was at 25 PSI. When i was at the line i didnt burn out or anything... Also it was about 78 degrees outside and as night came it got down to at least 68 degrees..

1st run - 14.726
MPH - 97.07
R/T - .509
60' - 2.319

really didnt know what to do so when i lined up and saw the 3rd yellow light i slammed on the gas and i was in auto mode.

2nd run - 14.628
MPH - 97.33
R/T - .209
60' - 2.239

this time i did brake stance but i was still in auto mode

3rd run - 14.511
MPH - 98.42
R/T - .118
60' - 2.262

this time i did the brake stance and was in manual mode

4th run - 14.629
MPH - 97.09
R/T - .380
60' - 2.261

this time we were bracket racing and i ptu my time at 14.5 thinking i wasnt going to breakthrough it... and i was brake stance and in manual mode

5th run - 14.450
MPH - 98.64
R/T - .251
60' - 2.260

this time we were bracket racing and i broke through my time of 14.5 so that was my last run.. and i was doing brake stance and manual mode

so what you guys think i should do??

Nice times for a basically stock car. Did you finish the runs in 3rd gear or did you shift to fourth before crossing the finish line? I'm planning on going next Wednesday if the weather is a bit cooler.

Hmm.. not too sure about the G but those 60' times seem a little high. I think you need to work on your launch first. Even if you drop your 60' time by 0.2 to around 2 seconds you should be running low 14's (14.2-14.3 or so) which is pretty much typical of a stock G.

Please give us advice of how to do a good launch. What RPM should we shift? Red line?

I have a 5AT and when I launch it at the track I first turn VDC off. as I line up I do it very slow to trip the first stage light then inch forward to trip the second stage light. Left foot on brake and right foot holding the gas down to keep RPMs at around 1500. When the yellow lights start i try and build up ROMs to 2,000 slowly and as the last yellow lights up I am hitting 2,000 RPMs and letting off the brake. My 60ft times are 2 flat. I run 13.6 in the 1/4 mile with the mods listed.

The following IMHO so you're mileage may vary...

I think you're going to get a lot of "go FI" responses in terms of improving track time. If you figure that the typical bolt-ons (intake, plenum spacer, ECU, exhaust etc.) all make up for small HP gains (small as a percentage of the base, stock HP number), IMO you'll end up spending quite a bit of money for an improvement that you may not be happy with. If you like bracket racing it doesn't really matter, all that matters is RT and consitency, getting a good RT each time and having consistent runs so you don't break-out. It looks like you did a good job improving your RT's in a short period of time, that's great.

yea thats what i was thinking... cause i know FI will make me go faster but i dont mind doing some basic stuff and might even go into upgrading internals.. as long as i can get into the 13s without forced induction then im happy.. there was an 03 IP auto there with intake and exhuast and i forgot what else he said and everytime i talked to him he always got like 14.6 or 14.7 i was like wtf... all i have is 350z intake tube and im running faster?

As for Reaction time right when that last yellow light hits my revs are about 2 maybe 2 and 1/2 and i drop the brake and slam the gas and my VDC is also off too. I was trying so hard to get a perfect R/T ...

I didn't say anything about going FI, that just happens to be my set up. He asked about the luanch. I ran my car prioir to going FI and my launch was basically the same. When you bracket race you are running against your own time and trying to be consistent and reaction time is a big part as well. When I first started running at the track prioir to bracket racing, I was told to not pay attention to the lights by trying to launch right out of the whole. I was told to just practice the launch right to reduce your 60ft time and over all 1/4 mile time. Then work on your reaction time. Do that on test and tune nights. That way you know your car and the way you launch so you can get consistent times. You don't have to have FI to bracket race.

As far as your friend running 14.7 and 14.6 with intake and exhaust that sounds about right. Not knowing the conditions either. With Intake Headers and exhaust I ran 14.5's all day. The g35 is a heavier vehicle and the 350 is going to be faster.
