actually, if he he getting a laptop he will not be able to utlitize his current HD as a internal slave drive due to the lack of space. However he can purchase a external case to put his current HD in and connect via usb and have it be recognized as a portable HD.

Although another thing to think about is that now he will have 2 OS's. He may have conflict while booting up and need to play with the BIOS. For simplicity reason i rather have him backup all this data and wipe out OS in his current drive he is still wants to use his current HD.

I do agree with what everyone else says about buying a whole new unit. Its maybe even cheaper not to mention warranty.

If you plan on getting laptop for reasons of traveling with it, then yes, get it. But if you just want to save space at home, i would not recommend it.

Take a look at this thread:
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/mess...eyword1=laptop

If you're lucky, you can get laptop for what you need for $400+ at local store. In another thread they mention that Office Depot also had same laptops for ~$400.

Otherwise, go with Dell since there are lots of coupons for them.

PS: forgot to mention, check out Craigslist for new Dell Laptops. You might be able to find a good deal local w/out taxes and shipping. Just make sure its NEW and unopened..and in process of purchase, ask buyer to open laptop and power it on. Friend was able to get a good deal via Craigslist on Dell machine.

^^^+1 if you are doing desktop. if not, you can turn that old hard drive into an external hard drive by buying an external hard drive enclosure like: http://www.dealsonic.com/neon5sinecch.html

I go to http://www.deals2buy.com/ to find great deals on electronic crap.

It was an easy fix. He just had a bad stick of ram. Removed the ram from his p3, and the system booted up fine.

The crazy thing is I think Bing spent more fixing my car than I did on his computer! He gave me a new sub and rewrapped my subbox.

Now that's what I call service
