I've got it. Go to your nearest BMW parts department, and be prepared to bend over.

German castrol is fully synthetic that you can get other than royal purple, redline, and a few others brands. Mobil 1 synthetic is a semi-blend now, used to be a full synthetic.

Check your local Autozone just picked some up 4.35 a quart. here in Elk Grove ..it was on sale. Make sure you look for the made in germany on the back.

Yup...heard Autozone carrying that, but also heard they're not going to continue restocking it. Don't know if that's a regional decision or corp national decision.

That's a good price btw for the GC. With my next oil service, I'm thinking of switching from 5wt-30 Syntec to Amsoil's 0-30.

Check close the BMW oil. If it doesn't say "Made in Germany" on it then it isn't true German Castrol, and will be a blend, not pure synthetic.

The German Castrol sold at Autozone currently says "European Formula" on the front, Made in Germany on the back, and is 0w-30 not 5w-30. Also, some of the real old Castrol 0w-30 is made in USA so check the bottle carefully.

The Amsoil that is best for our cars as daily drivers is the ASL 5w-30. I have the Series 2000 in right now, but the ASL is really better for a lot of around town type driving.

Do use the Amsoil oil and air filter regardless of the oil used. Worth the extra money.

jeff,

just google your area for Amsoil dealers and get the 2000 series 0w-30 oil.

Keep a close eye on the oil level. Someone on bobistheoilguy tried it in his G35 and had unacceptable consumption. We all know some of our cars do this and it may be the car and not the oil, but he switched brands. Not enough miles on the new oil to tell about the consumption yet. It may turn out to be just as bad.

Just saw the GC (European formula) at Autozone for 6.19 per quart.
