Traffic on 880?

Hi, I'm new to town, and will be commuting daily in the summer from Santa Clara to UC Berkeley.

Trying to decide if I should drive or public transportation the way there.

Can someone tell me which way the traffic heads in the morning and late afternoon?

And is it stop and go traffic? or whats the average MPH?

Thanks.

Welcome to the Bay Area. Traffic is congested on 880 mostly northbound in the AM and southbound in the PM through San Jose. Traffic around 101 and Dixon Landing is particulary heavy in both directions. Getting on from Bascom or the Alameda?

you could drive up to fremont and bart it out to berkeley also. depends what times you are commuting. I go from fremont to milpitas at 7am and dont hit any traffic and the northbound side seems empty i think. traffic around northbound hayward is heavy though.

880 is bad but only during certain times...it seems there is always traffic on the 405...day or night, weekdays or weekends.
