TPS annoyance and ?
Well, it looks like the guy who polished out my rim damaged the TPS on the installation. I had a ghost the first weeks and then it went away for a few months. I hit a rough patch last week and guess what? TPS flashing again. I've checked and the tires are properly inflated so by default I think it's the stoopid sensor.
Here's my question. Where would I go to confirm the sensor is bad? I'm sure the dealership has the machine to read the codes, but I've tried to avoid them like the plague. We won't mention how paranoid I am with my rims.
Should I go back to the guy who fixed my car? He polished the rim because he's a friend of my b/f. It wasn't part of the rear ender fix/exhaust install. To me it seems ungrateful, but the sensor seems to be damaged.
What would you do?

IF YOUR AFTER MARKET RIM AND TIRE PKG. IS WITHIN STOCK RANGE..HAVE THE DEALER LOOK INTO IT. iF YOUR OFFSET WITH CRAZY NUMBERS, THEN YOU MIGHT BE ON UR OWN. i HAVE HEARD OF YOUR PROBLEM ON CARS THAT HAVE 20" OR BIGGER.
The thing is, the tires and rims have been on for more than a year with no problems.
They took extra care so that the sensors weren't damaged on the initial installation.
Can you tell which sensor is out?
Will it throw a code for the left rear vs right front?

When I put my Toyo's on my OEM 19's last time, I noticed one of my TPS's had some scratches on it. I guess the dealer lamed out when installing OEM tires for the previous owner. At least mine work though.
I bought the car 1/06. It's a 2006 coupe. I've had the new rim/wheel combo on there since February/March of 2006.
If it's that simple, I could kiss you! I see from your sig, you have an 04. I don't know if the battery would go out that fast in a 06.
I hit a nasty pothole the first time I dinged the rims and hit another last week.
I'm going to have to get it polished out, but right now I'm living with it until the street I did it on gets repaved. Maybe the jarring did something to the battery?
I don't want to go and be a witch to the guy that helped me with the polish if it's not that sensor. I should have been there right away when it happened the first time. Everything points to that sensor, but what if it's not? I'd much rather spend my money on other things, but I may have to buck up and buy a new one when I fix the rim.
Blech. Frustration.

BTW, the tps light bugged me for a few months, then it just stopped
I think it means that the battery on it is getting low. I don't think our sensors transmit from which tire though, so that would be a pain to figure out which one it is. I just keep a descent tire guage around and check the air pressure every month with it. The tps generally come on when tire pressure is way off 32psi, but you can still have huge variances in between psi from tire to tire & they still won't come on. Ours are pretty sad, I have tps on my RDX, and those things actually give me psi readings per tire on the dash. I wouldn't waste my $$ replacing them, it will cost about $100 for some used ones and $100-$200 to take of the tires and remount them. Not worth it unless your already in need of new tires or still under warranty.

If you have aftermarket rims without TPS and want to get rid of the flashing light.....Rob over at Zcar garage has a way to help..Trick is you need to bring him your oem rims with the tps and he can rig a system to your spare tire to solve the problem...I've just learned to live with tha darn idiot light....

Being you had no problems with them in the past on the wheels you've had for awhile then hitting two major potholes, the TPS in your wheel might be damaged.
I know you hate Dealers, but it only takes about 10 min, if that, for them to determine which one is bad. The code they'll get does tell them if it's the RF, LF, etc. Maybe it only needs to be re-registered/paired with the TPS system. Even if you buy a new or used one, it would still need to be registered with your TPS system in your G to work properly and get rid of that light. If the system can't talk to one of the wheel sensors, it will give you that light.
Doubt it's a battery being I got my G in Jan 06 too, but ya never know.
My dealer tested mine on my aftermarket 20's for no charge when I was having actual air pressure problems with my tire.
Point is, it could/should be covered under warranty if it's a bad tps I would think, but don't know for sure.

Thanks! This is what I needed to find out. The light was flashing tonight, it was perfect timeing to find this. Thank you so very much. It sounds like I'm going to see what Oakland Infiniti's service dept is like.
