Clicking from the rear in an 05 auto coupe?

Have any of you heard of this issue? Over the weekend I started getting this horrible clicking from the rear wheels whenever I accelerate. But not when I am at speed. Any clues? It is driving me crazy and I am hesitant to drive with it like this.

I have done some searches and this clicking seems to mainly be an issue in the earlier models. Not sure if it is the same issue or not.

You maybe experiencing the infamous rear axle click. I had mine fixed some 7 months after I had purchased my G. Here is the TSB link. This may be your issue.

Edit: My rear axle also made a clicking noise. The noise only occurred during take offs, as well.

clicking

Andy is right. The rear bearings are most likely the problem. Drive it to the dealer and let them know. Quick fix!

My 05 suffered the same problem. Easy fix at the dealer.

I have an 05, and I'm having the same problems too! Is this under warranty?

Yeah, under warranty for sure and only takes a couple hours to fix. Had mine done a few months back and haven't had a problem since.

What does this "clicking" sound like?

I've been hearing a noise lately. At first I thought that my passenger seatbelt (metal part) was hitting the door, then I thought it was the door itself. It sounds like it's coming from my right rear side.

It happens a couple of times when I first drive off at the start of the day then I don't hear it again. To me it doesn't sound like a clicking but more of a thump. Is this the same issue?

Rudy,

The "Thumping" sound is the dead dog, which Shane put in your trunk.

The rear axle issue definitely presents itself with a clicking noise when the car initially takes off. It's an intermittent clicking, but quite annoying, nonetheless.

It can't be the dead dog because Shane put it in the cargo net.

I have a couple rattles I wish I could get fixed but I suck at finding where they come from. I should get this to help me: http://www.rattlebuster.com/index.html

I believe I have the same thing as well... more of a "thunk" sound, very much like the seatbelt hitting the plastic part of the interior panels... I can coax mine to make the noise by moving the car from side to side (a la slalom)... I thought it was something in my trunk bumping against the side of the car...

I guess I'll be heading down to the dealership... is it an expensive fix if it is out of warranty? I still have powertrain warranty I believe... wonder if that'd be covered?

I was going to say are you sure it's not the ping/thump sound which is the abs check the car does but that's more towards the front end of the car and only happens initially when you go past 20 km/hr. If it happens from moving the car from side to side then it's def something else.

Noise going side-to-side, yup definately not the ABS or VDC check 'thump' when first taking off.

Used to get that VDC check 'thump' when mine was new. Haven't heard it for over 15K miles w/20K on odo now

Going side to side with noise still could be a bearing issue without the famous clicking noise.

I e-mailed the guy at my dealership, we'll see what they'll do about it...
BTW what kind of mods void the warranty... they won't bitch about a z-tube, would they... maybe they won't even notice

g/l with the email...why not just call or go there?

Anywayz...nah...I wouldn't worry about a Z tube. Heck, it's an Nissan oem stock intake for the Z with exact same powerplant and drivetrain as our G's. My Dealer is mod friendly and sells an AEM CAI. So I'd say...no worries with a Z tube.

As far as what mods void warrany...lol...long debated subject on driver. Won't start that on this thread. IMO in a nutshell...no mods void warranty unless they can prove it caused the failure.
Search or google Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
