Got a FixIt Ticket : How does the process work

I got a fixit ticket for my front tints and my front license plate. The cop insisted any tint of any percentage on the front windows were illegal in CA. I don't know if that is true, but mine are pretty dark even if there was some legal percentage I am far passed it with 20% fronts.

So I am guessing I can just attach the front plate using zipties to one of the side vents on the bumper to avoid putting holes in my bumper and get it signed off, but I am not sure how to handle the tints.

What is the penalty for not fixing the tints, or is this a must fix once you get one of these tickets. It would be unfortunate if I have to un-tint and then re-tint the fronts. I might be purchasing a new drivers side window soon anyways, so I'll probably have to re-tint the new window anyways.

I was busted for tint a bit over a month ago in SF. He didn't bust me for no front plate though. For the tint, I had a cop friend sign it off and I sent that in with $10 check.

For the license plate, just zip tie it to one of the front vents or use the Stillen tow hook. You have to go to a police station or a CHP station and they sign it off. They can also do your tint citation but you would have to remove it. I think you can just pay the amount and not fix it but its expensive. My tint would have been $125+. Good luck.

yeah its illegal to tint front windows, if you got cop friends just ask them to sign it off for you. or work out a deal with a tint shop tell them to take it off and you wanna redo it in couple week but you got a ticket for it, they might give you a discount. or you can take off the tint yourself, i did it once and yeah lets just say its worth paying 50 bucks for someont to take it off

hmm would that work? I would rather do that, than drill holes into my bumper or does the plate have to be in the center?

Zip ties do work as I had my first fix it ticket signed off with this method, plus the cop had a G35 and said please do not put holes in the front bumper For the past 3 months mine has been attached with industrial double sided 3M tape which works great rain or shine.

Do you have any pictures of your front end with the plate on the side?

I got a tint ticket a few months back. I just paid the fine instead of getting it signed off. It cost about $120 for my fine. It was easier than paying for removal, getting signed off, and re-tinting. It might even be cheaper to just pay the fine too.

That is what I was thinking too.

Im fortunate that I went to my eye doc and had him write me a note. It basically says that my eyes are sensitive to the light, therefore I need to have tint on my windows. The judge has no problem with it and the cop who pulled me over had never heard of it, but had to let me go. If you got insurance, pay a visit to the eye doc. You will be surprised how willing they are to write something up.

I know people that have attempted to do that in the past but it didn't work. They were told that they needed to use those removable sun shades.

The removable sun shades would not apply an even coverage. There would be parts of brighter sun coming through in certain areas. I actually am sensitive to the light so if I was ever told that by a cop, I would tell them otherwise.

One of the partners in my group is a part-time cop and he verified it with me that they do need to be removable shades. It does not matter whether you have an eye note from a doctor or not. If it's that extreme, you are supposed to wear all encompassing shades/visors.

It all depends on the cop who stops you , one time i got pulled over for speeding going 65 in a 40 mile zone, and when the cop came i just asked him nicely not to give me a ticket, and told him that i was going from work and very tired and didnt really pay attention to the speed. So he just let me go. But this could probably happen one in a hundred chances, lol
