Security Film for Windows? Nor Cal install?
Hey guys,
As you probably know, my car was broke into last Saturday (and still no call from the police!!!!) and it has pissed me off beyond belief. Anyway, I know smash and grabs are common and I remember hearing about security film or tint.
Apparently there is a film you put over the window and when someone smashes it with, i dont know, say a brick...then the window will crack but not lose its shape or bust inward. Basically the thick film holds the glass together.
I was wondering if anyone else knows about this stuff, and if there are any places that do it. Bullet proof glass was a second, but at $10,000 for the 4 windows, I think i could spend that money better!
Anyway let me know and also let me know what other security measures you guys have taken, i.e. alarms or...flame throwers etc.
Thanks

Living in Arizona, it is imperative that all my vehicles have tinted windows. My truck sits out side in the driveway. Both my car and my wife's are parked in the garage. Well, about a year ago, someone shot a hi powered BB through the back window of the truck. The tinting film kept the window together, it did not shatter, although it was filled with many veins, and did fall apart with the installation of the new window. The one good thing about it was, it gave me the opportunity to put in deep tinted slider.

You may want to give Premier a shout. The last time that I was over there, they had mentioned such a product, as you are looking for. Let us know what you find, please.

Always had dreams of doing something like that, except my dreams were with 480v and fry the **** who touched my ride.
Speaking of fried...haha that flamethrower link with quicktime movie is awesome...
Wouldn't most tints keep shattered windows together?
Guess the thicker it is, the better it would work. Huper Optik tints are thicker than the usual tint film from what I've heard.

I have been looking for the electricity kit!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
So guys, with the security film the guys who install is said they need an anchor. Since the window goes up and down the glass would hold together but it would still come out of the car in one piece.
I will get this electricity kit! The guy leaned on the door to get into the center console, nothing says f-u like 2000v to the nads!
Thanks for your info

If you're gonna go Lexan / polycarbonate windows, check out Percy's Speedglass:

I know they make stuff for the Z, but maybe not for the G. If you're serious about it, I'd give them a call.

Can't really stop someone from smashing your windows but you could have a shock sensor and/or resonance sensor in each door. Security systems don't really stop thieves and vandals, it just slows them down. With two-way paging alarms they can slow them down AND notify you so you can at least catch them in the act if you are fast enough OR catch them fleeing the scene... I wouldn't report it to the cops though and waste their time with it since it's not really a priority for them.
