Avoid Hwy 24 if you can
24 as of Friday 5pm
Here's an update from my drive home tonight. I'm sure there will be more work done tonight. As of now, this is where we stand.
Lanes will be #1 for the slow to #4 for fast left lane.
Everything is fine from the Caldecott through Orinda until you get just past St Stephens. Lanes 1 and 2 are paved and smooth for the longest amount. After the St S. overpass the #3 lane has not been completely paved. It literally becomes a pit with the lanes on either side being higher with rocks bordering it. Lanes 1,2 and 4 are ok. Just at the right-hand sign for Lafayette, the #4 lane becomes unpaved.
At the Acalanes exit all h@ll breaks loose. This is probably the worst part of 24 right now. Lane 3 seems to (again) be the bad one with less smooth transitions from paved to unpaved. The slow lanes are still better, but not by much. Watch for over passes where the freeway goes over the local roads. If anything will be unfinished, that's the place.
Everything smoothes out at Pleasant Hill road.
Blue tape anyone?

Add me to the busted windshield club!
I was driving my RDX this morning on 24 east and right before Lafayette, got slammed with a big stone...sounded like a gunshot! Way louder than any before, these things are no joke. Needless to say, I now need a new windshield. Now I have to figure out how to file a claim with Caltrans.
BTW..I was in lane 1, most of the road is paved except all those overpass transitions are not done yet and still have plenty of stones left behind.

Here's where to start with your damage claim.
Wow...they now want $25 filing fee...
