I've been lurking around for a while and never post but I felt I should pass this along.

As the heading suggests, they are paving 24 and if I didn't know any better the company doing the job went down to labor ready and hired a bunch of tweakers. There are rocks all over the road going both directions in all lanes, and there is loose tar on the road as well.

Woke up today and checked my g since I have noticed this past Saturday and Friday that I could hear the **** flinging all over my car as I was driving. There was tar on my rims (the lip and inside the actual rim) so I cleaned them off. Luckily it wasn't a roasting *** type of day cause the **** would have baked on there even though I park it in my garage.

I'm gonna drive my beater to work and haul a dozen eggs with me next week and throw them ***** out the window as I pass the asshats laying down the asphalt.

Thanks for the warning, but hurling eggs at people or anything is not cool.

i heard bout this , paul was telling me he got couple rock chips on his window already from that road

I believe that for the folks who normally drives that highway, if a group of you go up and complain to CalTrans, they will pay for the damages in your car. I heard somewhere in Berkeley when there were huge potholes in one particular busy street, several people wrote to CalTrans and sending them a bill for repair to their car and CalTrans eventually paid them. It took a couple of months though.

But again, thanks for the warning.

I was only joking about throwing eggs that would be a waste of food and would surely be a career ender for a job I much enjoy.

Yeah I feel bad now I should have posted this. I just didnt know anyone was taking 24. I have tar all over my car and I have a few chips in my window due to this. I agree with the labor ready thing. It is the worst thing I have ever seen. There is chunks of tar everywhere and huge chunks too. Driving down 24 you hears it all hitting your car constantly. Be warned

I got my first ding in my windshield today from a stoopid rock on 24.
I saw Paul's and got one too. Careful it's catching. grrrrrrrrrrrr
Thier provided slope down to the unpaved part also put a nice scrape in my newly polished rim.

Wow . . . I would have to believe that for you folks, whom have received damages to your cars due to the road work, there is a real course of action.

Personally, I have made 3 claims to SF's department of public works via the city attorney for damages received to 2 of my previous cars. They send you a form, you fill it out, send in an estimate, and the check is in the mail.

Yup...CalTrans have claim forms for damage.
But don't wait too long. Think there's a statutes of limitations on time to file claim.
Or...most insurace co will cover n/c the first three windshied chips. Mine did...AAA, but depends on how bad chip is for those repairs to work well. Otherwise file claim.

hey so ... gillian, you'll have to update us about whether 24 get cleaned up in time for the BBQ. otherwise we will have to devise an alternate route to get out there for those of us coming from the west...

ohyeah i totally forgot bout that, but we goig on a sunday so there isnt much traffic. it really sucks if there are alot of cars kicking up stuff.

It's all good if you can stay on the newly paved lanes. Where it changes from new to old is the problem spot.

If it's still ugly, you can go through Orinda and Lafayette.
There's a couple of roads that follow the highway.

I too got a crack in my windshield today because of 24. I work in walnut creek. I'm furious. The pavement is so uneven with loose rocks everywhere.

2 on the windshield (one big)
2-3 pits on the hood
2 pits on the **cking roof !!
All in the last 3-4 weeks daily driv'n down 24. I feel like I'm in Iraq surrounded by those IED things going off everywhere.
Can I sue somebody ( CA the State) over this crap ?
