The story does not say anyhting about drugs or stolen parts. It seems more like your local PD just wanted to scare people from meeting in groups, they view it similar to a gang activity. IMO.

Things like this will only force those groups to hide more. Better to have a calm meet of enthusiasts than a race track on a public street I would think. If you are not doing anything to justify the attention I would think they should leave you alone.

Quote: Do you think "g35 chippie" would narc us out? He was just on the board preaching about tail light overlays of all things.

I'm starting to rethink this whole Santa Cruz meet thing. I don't have anything major on my car, but I would be so pissed if I got a fix it ticket from some **** LEO for my light 35% tint on my front windows. I really like my tint and don't want to go through the hassle of removing it.
I'm not "narc'ing" anyone out. That would be like writing tickets in the neighborhood I live in, then going home for lunch with the patrol car parked out front. **** or not, your "light 35% tint" is a violation of the vehicle code. You brought it on all yourself. The reason I was "preaching" about tail light overlays, of all things, was to give everyone on this board that lives in CA a heads up that it is illegal. It was a friendly, head's up warning. I don't make the laws, I just enforce them. That's why we have a system of checks and balances in this country. If you don't like the laws about window tint and modified lighting, then your gripe is not with law enforcement. It's with the legislators. Start up a petition, get a lobbyist, contact your state congressman, and come up with a good reason to have these things.

As far as the tactics used on that crack down based on the article....sketchy. But I have to consider who wrote the article. Just from the wording used, I'm going to say it's a newspaper that is not compasionate with law enforcement. So of course the event will be reflected in a bad light. I'm sure the entire sequence of events was not accurately represented. In any event, SOCAL has a street racing problem that is out of control. Innocent people are getting hurt or killed. Traffic gets congested, roads blocked off. Cars get stolen and engines get swapped. This affects all of us. When these racers crash while racing, what do you think they do? Call their insurance company and come up with some phony story so the insurance company will foot the bill. All these things raise insurance rates for all of us. The trend for law enforcement now is to be proactive instead of reactive in regards to street racing. It was probably a scare tactic to send a message. The community is tired of it and obtained some grant money to send officers out for the specific purpose of fighting street racing.

Street racing is on the rise again in the South Bay. As another friendly "heads up," Santa Clara County just received grant money for multi-agency task forces to combat street racing.

I'm still going. PO PO or not. Ya, we are a bit more of a target all together, but oh well. If they want to pull me over for tint on the road, or in a parking lot, I know I am breaking the law. It's not going to prevent me from kicking Kris' a$$ through the hills.

I appreciate your response and sorry, yea I was a little bit slanderish in my post.

Under normal day to day circumstances I don't have a problem with any LEO because I act and drive in a well behaved manner. I don't street race or do any of that stuff anymore. I'm not worried about what I'm going to do. What I'm worried about is what the other 50+ people going to this event are going to do. Everything changes when you're in a group.

I'm know I'm just being paranoid about the whole thing, but like you said my tint is a violation. I know that. If I were to get a ticket for it I wouldn't have a gripe with the LEO, but I would be pissed at myself for even going to the event in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, this issue isn't keeping me up at night. I'm still going to the meet, but this story does make me hesitate a bit.

I basically want to just go to the meet, pray that it's drama free, and check out some of the sick *** G's, especially the sedans, that I keep seeing on these boards.

You dont street race? Ill protest to that. Hes been seen racing down my street at 1am yelling profanities out his 35% tinted windows, wondering why his car isnt hitting vtec anymore.

Thanks chippie.

As long as we don't get the yahoo outsiders, no one revs loudly (I'm just as guilty), and everyone keeps things under control, we'll have a great time. Breaking into groups with radios has been a god-send for us. I believe it's kept a lot of people out of trouble.
