I don't think you have anything to worry about Bert. These runs are fairly tame as we will be going on the drive in groups. The leaders typically try to keep everyone together and not try to lose them through the hills

At least most of the leaders try do not lose people

I was just reading about this on the other forums. That's not good. Hope they don't start this in Nocal. I just attended a 17 car run last Saturday from S.J. to Coalinga. We saw a few CHP's on the roads and even bumped into a group of CHP officers at the same lunch location. They were pretty cool about it.

The only experience that I've seen LE pull several cars over was last year 06/07 on Hwy 35 trip? I still remember it clearly, when someone backed into my Z trying to avoid the police.

You just have to be careful of the leaders that take "special" shortcuts.
Luckily that time it was beneficial.

As posted in the Santa Cruz thread:

"Note: This is a group drive, which is for everyones' enjoyment. And as such, when driving in a group, please be considerate and courteous to the others in your group. Please remember that we are all sharing the roads with other motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. Please remember that if one person attracts unfavorable attention to him or herself, everyone may ultimately pay the price. We all leave together, we all drive together, and we all arrive together. Antics, such as the ones performed at the Locust Garage, by a non NorCal G member/guest, last year, will not be tolerated. Individuals driving their cars inappropriately will be asked to leave the group. We are looking forward to meeting everyone and having another successful Santa Cruz Run/Meet. "

At previous runs/meets, we have had the LEO in our presence. On these previous occasions, the LEO was quite pleasant and friendly. We merely responded to their inquires rather than react, as it should be.

They were simply performing their duties and were curious of the large group of cars. The exchanges were always received quite well. Keep in mind, that on those occasions, the LEO could have cited numerous violations, which were mainly for no front plates and dark window tint. However, they did not cite, as such, and thankfully so.

Remember folks, it simply takes one person performing an undiscerning selfish act, which draws attention to the whole entire group. Needless to say, some of us know the short comings of our cars in the eye of the law or should. So, please do not test the will of the LEO.

Andy, i think people might be suprised at how the cops do leave us alone. i know when we met up in san mateo last year, there were cops in the parking lot and they were just talking about the cars! no harm, no tickets! we saw a few as we were passing by on the run. alot of them look, but i think its because its just a huge group of cars all together!

Yes, Melissa . . . We cannot help but attract attention from people, as we all drive. It must be a sight to witness. And as such, we all need to maintain ourselves. Needless to say, I should not have to remind everyone of the idiot, whom almost brought the hammer down on us, last year.

Those whom bring attention upon themselves, not only are required to answer to the LAW, but . . . Will need to answer to the rest of the group, as well.

I remember that - I was the lead car coming down the highway. I kept waiting at the PCH/84 intersection, wondering what happened to everyone.

Maybe the pre-drive brief should include a caution to not be stupid. I wouldn't have thought it necessary, but after witnessing that Corvette reve his engine and do drifts/burnouts in a multilevel parking structure, I now think differently.

Here's another story on the Riverside raid from a local paper: http://www.pe.com/localnews/rivcount...1.4234d9b.html. What's interesting is the agencies involved - for example, Baldwin Park is a loooong way from Riverside. And Mount San Jacinto Community College police?!

Tony, during my pre-drive chats, it has always been mentioned/cautioned to act appropriately. These are not 2 to 3 cars runs. However, there will always be certain individuals, whom believe that they are above the group and are willing to ruin it for everyone else. These said individuals need not attend the meets and are definitely not welcomed, as well. . . . At least not on my watch.

On a lighter note . . .LOL . . . I remember you calling out on the radio, "Low on gas.", Paul. Everyone in my group and your group pulled into the same gas station. Since you were stopping, some of the people in my group wanted to use the restroom facilities. I'm not going to mention any names.

We are going to miss your help, this year.
