My personal thoughts about Santa Cruz IV . . .
First and foremost, a public apology to Rob a.k.a. rwcblkcoupe, whom offered his time as a GL for this run/meet.
Rob, please accept my vehement apology for my inappropriate, untimely, and disruptive outburst towards you, at the parking garage.
You were quite undeserving of the said. Considering the magnitude of this event, without people like yourself, these events have the potential to unravel. Your time and effort is appreciated by all.
Secondly, I offer my heartfelt gratitude to everyone whom helped make this a successful event.
The GLs and their anchors . . . You folks rock! I know that the drive is a totally different experience for you when you are required to manage a large group of cars. We actually kept the separation time down to some 40 minutes between the groups. With the group as big as it was, you guys did a stellar job. For once, we arrived ahead of schedule and the restaurant was caught off guard.
A few of you offered your apologies for very minor/insignificant issues. Paul, Dew, and Shane, you humble me with the said. It only goes to show the caliber of whom you are, as with the rest of the GLs.
Shannon, thank you so much for assisting Carol with the collection of the monies. Knowing that you would be there to help, keep her at ease.
I have always marveled at your age. For a youngster, you set the standard to follow.
Carol, thank you so much for affording me the luxury of doing this for the past 3 years. Thank you for embracing the NorCal G community and understanding what it means to me. Thank you for setting a new benchmark in organizing the luncheon. I know that it didn't go exactly the way in which you had envisioned, but I challenge anyone to have done better with what you had on your plate.
Shane, I am pleased to have had the honor and privilege to have co-organized all of these previous meets with you. The Santa Cruz and Monterey events would have never happened without your selfless efforts. You, my dear friend, have an enormous heart and always continue to give. You are the true spirit of NorCal G and we will all miss you . . . And I will leave it at that, for I am lost for words with regard to you, at the moment.
Finally, to all of the participants . . . You folks made it happen. If not for all of you, there would only be a handful of us kicking soda cans in a large parking structure. You folks are the very reason why we do this. Thank you all!
This particular event has grown over the past years . . . And as such, it has had the potential to get out of control. Personally, my whole reasoning for these type of events was and is to afford everyone a safe and enjoyable experience . . . A sense of community, if you will . . . In doing so, I have always been concerned with exposing any of you to the perils/consequences of foolish antics and am quite intolerant of those whom attempt to do so.
Last year, it was a misguided person in a corvette, whom brought the wrath of the management of the parking structure and the local PD upon us. This year, it was a splendid example of how not to drive in a parking structure by a Mitsubishi owner. We received a harsh warning from the parking structure management, yet again for the second year. Thanks to Eloy and to a young lady, who's name eludes me at the moment, for calming the situation with the management.
Unfortunately, this may have been the very last Santa Cruz Run/Meet that we will have. There are no plans for Monterey III, at this time.

Andy, well said, but don't forget that you had a great deal to do with this and you deserve a huge thanks from all of us. It's great to have members like yourself as well as everyone involved as part of this community and it's what made me want to join in the first place. It's unfortunate that this may be the last SC run but the true spirit on Driver is the community, not just the events. Oh, happy belated...I heard Phil mention that this morning.
Andy, thanks for organizing this. For four years running, no less! Being part of these meets has really enhanced the G-owning experience for me.
Re Shane leaving - did I miss something?

Andy, very heartfelt words. Your commitment to the Norcal G community is truely a leading example we can all follow. Your passion and dedication to ensure events like the SC run go smoothly just show how giving a person you are. The same goes for Carol and Shane.
I know I couldn't do it and for that I appreciate all of your hard work.

Your decision is understandable Andy. Both times though, it was a not a G and this year not a G or Z that caused the issue. Perhaps something to consider IF you reconsider.
It will be hard to replace Shane, if ever, in the organizational partnership of this annual event as well as many other NorCal G runs.

Andy, I think its unfortunate that people have to ruin things for other people. But I think that thats going to happen no matter what Anyone does with a large group of people, especially with people who arent part of the usuals. It would be sad to see this meet end for the stupid reasons that happened the last 2 years! I hope we can reconsider this thought of not having another for next year and maybe only limit a certain amount of people. Either way....It was a fun meet! Well planned like always! Thank you Andy, Carol and Shane for organizing and taking time out of your busy schedules to do this! Its a lot of hard work and planning. Thanks to the leaders, who made us get to the meeting spot safe and sound! To everyone, it was good times, with good people and good company!

side note, i agree with many of your words in your original post... unfortunately, an event can always be improved. next season, we will need to revisit the issues we had this year, to see what we can do and if it's worth it.
Andy it has been a real pleasure to participate in this event for the last 4 years and I look forward to more.
As it grows each year there are more chances of things going wrong so I agree that we may need to downsize the group of cars we allow and also change the venue of where we park.
To say this is the last time we do this kind of event is a real downer, what else will I do with all the extra free time I will have

What if maybe we have a huge meet at some kind of park or something, where there can be no reason to squeel tires and such.....
like the bbq ding/dent day. that way everyone can still come out....just without the driving part (which seems to be part of the issue... )
just a thought

Andy a huge thank you for taking such a huge amount of time out of your schedule to arrange and organize this. The same goes to Carol, Shane, Shannon and all the group leaders. I led a group last year and there is a lot of pressure to lead a group of cars, and I continue leading groups down from Sac for each event.
The Santa Cruz and Monterey runs are the only two events I make it down to from Sac and each time (for 3 years now!) it has been well worth the drive. It would be a true shame to see these kinds of great gatherings end. I have met a lot of great people and look forward to meeting more.
So a huge thank you yet again to everyone that makes these big meets possible.

This was the first meet I attended and was surprised by the level of organization, you guys did a stellar job.
I was appointed as anchor of group 2 and given a walkie talkie and phone number incase. the walkie talkie ended up giving me nothing but static so I called my group leader and kept in contact that way, everything went smooth.
