First off, I'd like to say that it was cool meeting the people that I did. I have to say I was disappointed though. This was my first meet and I didnt really feel welcomed as a first timer (with the exception of a couple of people). Just a suggestion for future meets; Maybe people should be more friendly and introduce themselves instead of segregating themselves...

I'm sorry to hear that your experience was like that. Unfortunately it was a decent sized meet and it tends to happen that way. However the mini meets are more friendly. I recommend you go to those because it's more personal and everyone gets to know each other better. I started out going to the smaller meets and it was an easier transition. I hope this doesn't deter you from coming out to future events. I'll try to make more of an effort next time.

i think we should have some sort of Ice Breaker on every meets as a tradition so people could get settled in better. I feel you though, it is a bit awkward at times but don't get me wrong, norcal peeps are all nice and some are hilarious. but yeah, ICE BREAKERS!

Yep, that's Bernie. But he left with us and you Ray were still there at Sonic's, unless you left right behind us.

Sorry to hear that you felt that way. We are actually a very friendly group of people. And contrary to your impression, we are friendly to new comers. How else do you think we got to be such a large group of people?

I suppose it would be easy to say people "should be more friendly and introduce themselves instead of segregating themselves," but sometimes you also gotta take a little initiative to come introduce yourself, as well. I saw a lot of unfamilar faces, however none of them made their way over to say hello.

Like someone said earlier, your experience can be attributed to the fact that it was a somewhat large event, and was held in an uncontrolled enviroment in comparision to some of other more fomal dinner meets, where formal introductions tend to take place. Nevertheless, I hope that this single experience won't prevent you from making it to any of the future meets and getting to know the NorCal members that make up these message boards and community.

apologies to anyone who felt segregated. i feel ice breakers are a forced social environment, and only truly effective in certain conditions. since this was such a large meet, it would have been challenging. people were coming and going, and not much of a controlled environment. we were outdoors, in a parking lot... with many of us scattered throughout.

i will say that most of us are pretty outgoing, and we have a good time together. many of us have become close friends, and if there was any sentiment of segregation, it was by no means intentional.

in addition, all of us were at one time a newbie/noob and the beginning of hanging out with everyone is awkward. a great way to integrate yourself, should you so choose to become more familiar with the ncg community, would be to post in our useless thread. it is quite a open forum for conversation, etc. also, as stated previously would be to attend our mini-meets. it's definitely a more intimate setting, where conversation is fluid.

in conclusion, if anyone else feels that there was not enough integration between the usual suspects and newbies, please understand we are a very social bunch, and you are also as responsible for integrating yourselves, as you see fit in correlation with your level of comfort. different people have different levels of comfort in social situations, and it would be expected that one would act in response, accordingly.

again, sincere apologies for any disconnect. we have these to build our ncg community, and i suppose we take for granted that everyone is comfortable striking up a conversation with others.

any suggestions or comments in regards to making this a more fluid process, please PM me directly. thanks!
