I would say you got off easy. I usually use 26101 VC. This section is NOT correctable. It is not a $10 fix it ticket. You still have to return the taillamps to original, and pay the fine, which last I heard was over $100.
26101. No person shall sell or offer for sale for use upon or as
part of the equipment of a vehicle, nor shall any person use upon a
vehicle, any device that is intended to modify the original design or
performance of any lighting equipment, safety glazing material, or
other device, unless the modifying device meets the provisions of
Section 26104. This section does not apply to a taillamp or stop
lamp in use on or prior to December 1, 1935, or to lamps installed on
authorized emergency vehicles.
26101. No person shall sell or offer for sale for use upon or as
part of the equipment of a vehicle, nor shall any person use upon a
vehicle, any device that is intended to modify the original design or

lets say you had a friend that was also chp.... would he pull over people just for smoked tails?

Thanks Grace for stepping in and nope no revving at any old ladies lately, just young kids 
g35 chippie- I understand what you may have given but I think every officer uses their own discretion in these situations and I suppose as I was polite enough to listen and acknowledge his input he let me off with this. I have already taken most of the film off so yes it will be a $10 ticket.

I know it's still an alteration to tail lights, but all parts of tail lights that illuminate aren't covered. So would these be considered more-or-less legal?
Understand if you can't stick your neck out and answer if borderline on code you posted, but I'd think those would be okay or more-so within legal guidelines.

The section I posted says, "nor shall any person use upon a vehicle, any device that is intended to modify the original design OR performance of any lighting equipment" You could ask the officer his training and experience in court as to what is the orginal design of a G35 taillamp design I guess. Careful though, he/she might just know.
