Agree as mentioned, need to deal with court house and show proof your plate is to your G and always has been b/c it's a ticket.

FYI: When you get new plates, your old ones even if reported stolen/missing, will still pull up your current address for 7 years with DMV. After 7yrs, won't be referenced to past regist owner.

Happened to me on my truck as being involved in a hit and run with my old plates ~ 5yrs after getting new ones by means of a letter WTH!! DMV cleared that up b/c they had records of my past report on those and I was not liable. Was able to do all that over the phone with DMV and agency that sent that letter.

Does the ticket have the vin number of the car and does it match the G? Also did you check your registration card to make sure that plate does belong on the G. I don't know why everyone complains about the wait at the DMV when in reality its not that long. Just make an appointment and you will be in and out within 15-20 mins depending how busy they are.

Yup WTF??? had it right, you'll have to deal with the court house to get it resolved. We get those issues all the time when the parking control folks are rushing to cite a bunch of cars they switch a digit.

If it really is a missing plate, you'll need to report it stolen/missing as well

Just do a hearing by mail Grace if it's available

and explain the situation.

I do it all the time with my "red light" tickets.

I just tell them it's not me driving it and ticket dismissed.
Luckily in our state they don't take picture of the driver

Update: I called on Friday afternoon and apparently all I have to do is send them a photocopy of my registration along with the ticket info. I'm crossing my fingers it's really that simple. The license plates are something I have to deal with the DMV for. I never had the front one on and haven't really thought about it before. Ignorance will bite you in the tush, eh?

You need to report your plates stolen.

Hello Gillian,
Some DMV locations are not busy. If you're not too far off of Walnut Creek, visit the DMV here and you wait 10 mins tops (with appointment). One time I didn't get an appointment, I waited about 15 minutes on a Friday.

Trust me on this, I register 4 cars a year so I know..

I live 15-ish minutes away from there.
Thanks!

Apparently Oakland Housing authority contracts with a third party to handle tickets. When I first called, they said they didn't "do that". Once I explained their number was on the courtesy notice, it was checked on and confirmed.

What a PITA.

If someone has your plate and commits a crime i.e. armed robbery, then what if SWAT kicks your door down??? You should definitely get new plates.
