A base fine for speed may be $20-30, but by the time the court finishes adding in all the other fees, it can be more like $130. The court shouldn't charge you for something that is your Constitutional right. So by fighting it, I don't think they can charge you. Not sure, you would have to confirm with the court.

Just for info, most of the time people go to traffic court just to see if they can get their fine reduced. If they have a clean record, the judge usually does. Especially with carpool tickets. So instead of paying $450 for a first time offense, the judge has brought it down to $150. Then there was the time I saw a young man in court for a speeding ticket. He was paced at 85 MPH. He took his van to the dealership and had the speedo calibrated. Guess what? 15 MPH off. The judge still found him guilty and put a point on his record, BUT reduced the fine to $0.00. Sounds like corruption to me. And mind you, this goes on every day. So don't think it's some random occurrence. Take some administration of justice classes. Maybe it will help you understand the "system." Your record is not a factor in determining innocence or guilt, but used in the penalty process. If someone has a repeated history of auto theft, do you think the court is going to keep giving that person the same punishment? So it's not corruption, that's how it is.
