ANy close ups of Robs Joker pumpkin? That one is bad azz. The other ones look good too but I happen to like the detail and the way the hair pops off. I know most were templates but its still hard to cut out.

Only takes a couple of hours. Cleaning out the pumpkin is where you spend most of your time unless you're like Jenn and Rob and pick the craziest, complex ones. Those took more than 2 hours.

Most were taken in P mode, the rest were Tv trying to find something that worked. So much to learn.

Ok...I'm failing in P mode when doing night shots. Back to the books I go!

Nice sunset shot too Troy!

you guys should just start by shooting in AV . assuming you have a tripod, just leave it at ISO100-200, change the aperture according to how much DOF you want, and the camera will take care of the rest (usually, unless you're in some funky lighting conditions)

without tripod though, you'd want the fastest shutter possible... so you want aperture at the lowest number possible and ISO at the highest. if it's really bad, you can bump down the exposure a bit and then rebrighten it in PP instead...

these are basics... you should know these already

Also...

i very strongly recommend getting a remote shutter if you do a lot of tripod work (tons of cheap ones on ebay, there really isn't much to them. oem's have some fancy functions but are way too expensive). also, don't underestimate the importance of a decent tripod... they make a world of difference. believe me, the cheap ones from best buy just won't cut it. i don't care if it was only $20. i had one that was $10 and i still regret it (i went through 3). they aren't stable enough, aren't as easy to use, and break often. get a decent tripod!!
