Very clear to me what happened, especially news enhanced portion including the officer(s) reaction right after the fact.
Tragic mistake....very sad for all involved.
Monday morning quarterbacking? Not

Please don't Monday morning quarterback. Let's say you are 5'2" and 100 lbs. Would you go toe to toe with Kimbo Slice if you had a tazer or gun? You have to use the appropriate tool based on what you feel is necessary to end the threat. Unless you are in that line of work, you don't have a clue of when it is appropriate to draw a tazer or a firearm. It's totally the officer's decision on what he feels is appropriate. I'm not refering to this instance in particular, cause I wasn't there. I don't know all the circumstances and what he perceived as a threat. Was it a mistake? Maybe. I don't know. That will all come out in court and hopefully justice will be done. From what I've seen, it's a crappy situation for everyone. It's like when the Santa Clara County Deputy Sheriff ran over the three bicyclist and killed two of them. It was bad for everyone involved. Nothing good to come out of it.

The perp was on his stomach with his hands cuffed behind his back... I don't think the gun was necessary at all... but the officers there might have had more to worry about than I can see from any of those videos.
But it does look like an accident. So how do you treat an accident like this? The gun didn't malfunction, the trained and licensed officer "accidentally" pulled the trigger... aren't they supposed to keep their finger off the trigger, ready, but rested on the side unless they are going to fire?

lets not take my line out of context...if you included the previous line right before that I stated that the kids/adults shouldnt have been messin around to cause attention to the BART police...I realize that in a situation like that, the cop is trained to do what he/she deems necessary, but I was just stating the fact that NONE of that should of happened in the first place. Its just sad that it did.
But I agree with the fact that none of it should have happened in the first place. Like Will Smith says after shooting down the alien in Independence day, "Don't start nothin! Won't be nothin'!"

But it does remind me of this video:

Good thing she missed.
i loose sympathy for the person shot... yes it is a tragedy but then again what do people get out of fin' with the police...? just be cool. there is always someone who wants to act big and bad in front of friends around police thinking..."whats the worst they can do to me? technically i aint doing anything wrong" and obviously as in this case anything can happen especially the worst... its whatever.
chippie is spot on with it.

I know that everyone involved is mad and frustrated about the whole situation, but what message are they sending out by setting police cruisers on fire and breaking windows of businesses last night? Maybe it's just me but I don't understand it
The aftermath
I have helicopters overhead this morning. I'm 12-ish blocks away from BART headquarters
BART is notorious for burying it's head on basic issues, of course they followed the same path and didn't say anything until today. We have a council woman riling up her followers on local tv, a church leader doing the same, and local news airing a fellow going nuts over it. Of course they immediately had a disclaimer saying he didn't know the victim personally. Add a few people with no jobs and nothing to do and we have splinter groups going through the neighborhood burning cars, trashing local businesses, and ruining any positive outcome. Oakland is a beautiful city and it's getting trashed by this stupidity.
Bah Humbug.
