I took a look at it, doesn't look like I'll be able to use this method b'c I have a kenstyle front end (no more tow-hook patch on the bumper =/ ) ..I think I might try the 3M tape, or maybe jerry-rigging it to my mesh grill

Yup... they are small magnets that are pretty damn strong. Some guys use them on the tracks and they hold on the plate very well. I used to play with them in my last job. They were part of a biomixer attached to a propeller that spun solvents around.

Cool, thanks Troy. I'll check out using them to hold the plate and also I need them to use as a holder for my washing machine lid - the original magnet broke off and now I'm using a small weak one which kinda sucks when it fails and the lid comes crashing down on my hands/arms

You are welcome Nate... There is one that is about 2" in diameter. It will crush your finger with about 300 pounds of pull force. These are pretty cheap for the strength they have. Good luck

G35 Chippie, you say the department doesn't make any money from this offense, yet.... all the proceeds go to the state and who pays the CHP? the state, so that means you guys do make some money off of it. You personally or your department do not make money off of it in the form of a commission or split based on citation for that offense, but when it comes budgeting time you guys get some proceeds.-- although probably pennies per offense on something this minor. =\
Well at least you got the part about a correctable violation being $25.

CHP does not get ANY, none, zip, nada, zilch, zero money from the fine. My paycheck comes out of the DMV fund. Your vehicle registration is what pays my salary. I work for the state. Not the a city (Police Dept.) or county (Sheriff's Dept). The money generated from citations, arrests, and civil assesments goes to the city in which the violation was committed. That's why if you look on a ticket, it will state: "Executed at:" and we write the city in or 'unincorporated' so the fine will go to the city or county. Any ticket I write will actually help pay for a PD's or Deputy's salary. If I want to make sure I get paid, I have to build up the DMV fund by citing expired registration.

license plate pullovers!

G35 chippie!
Thanks for the info, but am not conviced that there is not a push going on in the state for agencies(CHP, local police and sheriffs) to generate revenue for the associated dept or agency they report to. Examples for my suspicion:
1. Increased patrols on Dumbarton, including CHP now routinely stationed at the KGO tower with Laser pointed at cars.
2. Recently spotted three CHP motor officers around a bend of 680 with Laser guns(appears to like a speed trap). They were picking off cars left and right, who were not excessively speeding, but traveling at 70/72 with light traffic.
3. CHP routinely pulls over cars with tint, while local agencies do not. I was pulled over last year on Dumbarton and explained to the CHP officer regarding the recent 1999 ruling allowing 70% tint. He did not care and stated that no tint is allowed at all in the drivers window.
4. The ony reason the no front license plate pullover is because of the RED light cameras, which are HUGE revenue generators.
These activities are all indicative of revenue generating, not safety related, and please do not quote stats regarding correlation of speed limits and accidents.

i think all PD/chp/sheriff's are hurting for money just like the rest of the economy so the yare bumping patrols trying to get any little ticket they can fork out cus I noticed the dumbarton bridge chp's as well (i cross that bridge 3-4x+ a day) and they always have someone pulled over most of the time.. also when u go down the bridge on the right after the road there is a tree that is descent size it covers the 2 menlo park cops that sit there and snag people to :P also on 680N after calavaras there is 2-3 motorcycle cops on each side who pull people over all the time... :P oh and u cant forget the chp cop who hides behind the Speed limit sign on a bike on 880S right under the 237 bridge around the curve sneekkyy sneekkyyy.. ive seen alot more cars pulled over lately then ever before.... SAVE THE AGENCY'S WITH YOUR SPEEDING TICKETS!! btw booo i got found guilty for a stupid speed that i didnt do :-/

680 N and S near Calavaras is the spot I have seen them on both sides of the Freeway, like shooting ducks. Due to the fact that they are in the middle of the freeway, this constitutes a road hazard for motorists driving by.

Hazard to motorists?!?! You mean motorists are a hazard to officers by driving at 80+ while we are in the center median. And yes, with LIDAR it is like shootin fish in a barrel when I can write 10+ tickets for 80+ in about a two hour period.
