Anyone have hook ups with AT&T wireless?

I think that I'm the only one on the planet that does not have an iPhone. I've been wanting one ever since they came out and I think that I want to make the jump now. I have always loved my blackberry and Verizon's service, but I really want an iPhone now. I just saw online that they're going for $199 with a 2 year contract. Does anyone have hook ups on either getting the phone cheaper or not having to sign up with a contract? I've looked on Amazon, ebay, etc... for the phone but they're just as much. Thanks!

the iphone have always been 199.99 with a contract. the cheapest is like walmart which is only a dollar less... -_- so its 199.99 for 8GB or 299.99 for 16gb with a contract. plus the 30 internet plan is also required.

Mike,

You may want to want until June to decide on purchasing a new iPhone. Word on the street is that a new gen iPhone is scheduled for release this coming June or July. A full upgrade to firmware 3.0 is due and this new phone promised to have what most of us current iPhone users have been waiting for.

For more on the buzz go to MacRumors.com.

Thanks Andy, I had no idea. I'm definitely going to wait and look further into this new model

The new one iPhone is supposed to have a better camera sensor and there's a rumor flying around about a quad core chip. Other than those 2, most of the software changes are downloadable, but the new hardware would be better equipped to handle the changes.

Mike - unless you know someone at Apple, don't expect a hook-up. You can buy the phone without a contract, but it'll cost more. The only way to find the deal you're looking for is to look online.

There are plenty of us without iPhones because we actually like making phone calls with our cell phones... Unless they've added better bluetooth and a better antenna and speaker to make the thing better as an actual phone, I'd be looking at an HTC (iPhone killer) instead.

Sprint = drop calls for days.

ATT does have some bs charges but they're much more affordable than Verizon. Both networks are good, but for the west coast, ATT service is better.

if u want a "cheap" i phone u need the contract, if not you will pay full retail. for instance i paid 299 for mine, but if i lost it, i cant replace it for 299 i have to pay 600. (my friend is a Manager at att) and she cant even get discounts on them .

Are you kidding me?? I don't have any problems with drop calls on Sprint at all-- in fact, I've had them for over 7 years and never had a problem with excessive call dropping. The only dropped calls I had was a few years back when I was on a road trip-- driving through Wyoming, there's little service @.@ --then I just kicked it into my free roaming and viola! no more problems

You know, I do have to give Sprint a little more credit than I did in that post. But by far, the network at ATT is better and much more rounded.

Trash all the networks....

It's WHERE you are that determines the best network provider for YOU. Here in South Texas, that's AT&T, they were here first (Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems) and have the best towers and the most towers. So if you travel, the choice is obvious for me. Sprint is much better than they used to be, but if you go off a major highway, you are screwed. The other networks are "also rans".

As for a 3g iPhone, they now offer re-furbs of the 8gb for $99.99, but expect to pay a little more for your contract. They charge more for some things.

I had an HTC 8525 and liked (not loved) it, but the iPhone is way better. There are some things that the iPhone cant do (at this time) that the 3.0 will fix so we will see. The main thing that the 8525 could do that iPhone can't: Play .wma files, cut past, tether to my computer for no extra charge.
