Unhappy HELP! Ticket for rear overlays

Some cop pulled me over yesterday and gave me a ticket for my front side windows which of course I know is illegal. But on top of that, he gave me a ticket for my rear GTR overlays. Those overlays don't even block the light and has cutouts.

Do I have a chance of fighting this ticket in court?

they will probably just add more court fees to your ticket....

what city did you get the ticket in?

I would fight it since they do not cover any of the "red" of the lens. The cop who gave that was pretty lame. He just saw your tails as being modified and felt like pushing more of his authority.

WHat VC did they write you up for? I got a ticket for smoked tails but they were dark. As long as your lights themselves and your side lights/reflectors are not covered, you should have a chance.

I suggest you don't fight it. If you fight it and lose it becomes uncorrectable. What is your violation code? That can let you know what you can and can't do to your lights.

Pushing more of his authority? It's the Vehicle Code's authority. According to 26101 VC it's illegal. Observe and document is what the officer did.

26101. No person shall sell or offer for sale for use upon or as
part of the equipment of a vehicle, nor shall any person use upon a
vehicle, any device that is intended to modify the original design or
performance of any lighting equipment, safety glazing material, or
other device, unless the modifying device meets the provisions of
Section 26104. This section does not apply to a taillamp or stop
lamp in use on or prior to December 1, 1935, or to lamps installed on
authorized emergency vehicles.

This used to not be a correctable violation. The last person I talked to that was cited for it cost him $130. That all changed and it is correctable now, $25 sign off. At least in Santa Clara County.

Its a damn vinyl overlay. There are cutouts that still show the red. Lights are not modified and they do not put any others at risk. With so many azzholes driving like chit and talking on cell phones, putting others at risk, it irritates me that those with petty "violations" are targeted. We still do not know what VC he was written for.

I got a fix it ticket for overlays but mine had no cut outs so I deserved it but I thought the rule was as long as the reflector was not covered you were ok but I guess that is not true.

Mine was a $10 fix it ticket.

honestly no point of fighting it man, just get it signed off and pay the 25 dollar fee now and let it go. if you fight it and lose that will be so much more time consuming and the fees are gonna be a lot higher. but GL
