Official Golden Gate G35 Dyno Day Results

Re: Official Golden Gate G35 Dyno Day Results
I'm game for a another dyno, but I don't think a new sound system will increase my hp. I'll just put on another G35 sticker.
Maybe it is my imagination but usually I put mid grade gas in but the last 2 tanks I am putting in 91 octane. It seems to run smoother. There isn't that many 76 stations around but whenever I see one I will fill-up.

Re: Official Golden Gate G35 Dyno Day Results
dont G require 91 octane??? sound system would most likely add more whp, pair of 18's will add nearly 27 whp and at least 18 tq, but it will offset by the weight gain

Why weren't you at the dyno? We needed more AT coupes, I had nothing to compare with.

What kind of sound system are you planning on getting?

Re: Official Golden Gate G35 Dyno Day Results
Went back to Modacar and used a chassis-ear to listen for detonation while driving. Past 5500rpm or so there was very minor detonation, but nothing huge like when the car was on the dyno the first time. Conclusions can be and/or
1) I had a bad batch of gas (Chevron 91 octane)
2) The dyno doesn't put enough load on the engine
3) The ECU is correcting for the knocking by pulling back timing already
4) Timing may still be too advanced
5) 13.08 A/F might be too lean for 91 octane with such advanced timing
I'm going to leave it be for now since it's not so serious anymore. I'm headed down to Torrance on 9/4 to join the SoCal guys for their dyno day. The dynapack there is able to provide a more accurate real-world simulation since they can adjust the load given to the engine.
Should problems arise, I'll be a few blocks from Technosquare so I'll drop by there Monday and have them pull back the timing to solve the problem for good.
I really wish we didn't have such poor quality gas in CA. Casey reminded me never to buy gas from a station if the tanker truck is close-by. Putting gas into the gas station tanks will bring up all the junk from the bottom of the tanks and you'll be putting that into your car. It's best to let the junk settle and then buy gas so you don't put contaminants in.
I'll also run some octane boost through my car to clean the injectors. I'll let you know how it turns out in a few weeks!

12:30 isn't late. We were still there.
Anyway, I don't want to hijack this thread but still haven't decided on system, but looking for ideas.

Re: Official Golden Gate G35 Dyno Day Results
They said they dumped the files from testing station on the server.
Andy,
I also stopped using Chevron, coz I get much crapier mileage on it. 76 or Shell is much better quality IMO. The best is Sunoco but it is only in Sonoma. Their 91 is $2.38, 96-$3.45 and 100-$4.45. So if you don't mind 45 minute drive up 101 to get that extra 8whp for the weekend this could be an option.
Everybody,
That brings a great idea, instead of smelling fumes and seeing some arguably subjective numbers we plan a meet at Infineon Raceway for some nice dragstrip time? We could do it during the week too, I think on Wednesdays they are open till midnight or something like that.

Re: Official Golden Gate G35 Dyno Day Results
Hey guys just got back from Vegas.
The Dyno Day was a great success. Nice to meet everyone and put a face to the name. Special thanks to Vinh for putting this event together, great job. Thanks Linda for the drinks and the brownies. Barry great job with the SPL info, I hope you didn't get brain damage from all that exhaust you endured!
I will update everyone on the status of my "Service Engine Soon" light as soon as I can get it checked out. I know there is a problem, just not sure what it is. As soon as it is identified and corrected I hope to Dyno my car again.

I did bring the drive, but Casey said he didn't know how to get the files. He said he already told somebody else that too. The computer was off and everything and I didn't want to be pushy since he was doing me a favor. He took time off doing an install to help me out, great guy.
