CHP Speed Traps -- more than ever?
I live in the East Bay -- is it just me, or has CHP been setting up radar/lidar traps more than ever before in the last few months?
I never used to see them just set up at an angle on the side of the road with the officer holding a radar gun out his window and waiting for speeders. (I'm used to CHP running radar on their front/rear windshields while driving along, but setting up seems to be a new thing they're doing a lot more). I'm sure it's just a revenue thing with the state's budget crisis.
But my big concern is that my Escort Passport 8500 x50 never picks up anything on these traps. I'm assuming these guys are using instant-on lidar guns and they only engage it once they've visually estimated a driver to be speeding. By that point, it seems to be too late. In fact, I got a speeding ticket (79 in a 65) in May in Monterey on CA-1 from a CHP motorcycle that was running radar from an upcoming overpass (he was on the bridge!) -- and my detector never even went off.
I'm not a flagrant speeder, but it was nice having some security from speeding tickets w/ the detector, and now it seems useless! Do I need to upgrade my equipment or are these guys finally using technology that's outsmarting us?

do you guys have any interest in contributing to a Norcal Speed Traps thread? there are sites on the web that lists speed traps generally, but its usually outdated info and/or irrelevant ranting. i figure there are enough of us out on the roads that we'll begin to see the CHP/local cops favorite hunting spots. might as well post them up!

I will contribute
880 north, top of Warren Entrance and the underpass of Warren/Mission. They team up sometimes. The unit on top gets your speed and one of the 2-3 units on the bottom goes after you.
(You will never see them from the freeway but they can see you)
Also if you exit Warren and drive towards Warm Springs there is a 4 way stop (flashing red light). CHP posts up there and give red light tickets (this one Im okay with).
