I was given a quote of $344 to replace my rear struts (oem). This being my first time o have no idea if this is a fair price for parts and labor. Anyone with experience think this is a good price, competitive? Thanks.

Highway robbery. If you're referring to just the rears, it's not that hard to swap them yourself with basic tools. 2 top bolts, 1 bottom bolt each side. You might be able to find some low mile used ones in the marketplace.

 

Wow. So normally if I were to take it to a shop what should be the price range for both rears? I'm not good with tools. I'm afraid I may mess up the car. Any reco where I might get it done for fair rate? Don't mind paying a bit or driving either...

I had a shop swap my hole suspension from stock to Tein basics for 100 bucks. I would figure they would charge you 1 hour of labor, and the actual rear shocks you can get for 50-100 each for the rear depending how good of a strut/shock you get. My total is about 300 max.

 

$344 per side is an awesome deal, do not turn it down just yet. Labor to swap out springs all around should be about $200-300, and you need to drop the struts to do so. The rear suspension is different on the G as the springs and struts are independent from each other, much like a Bimmer suspension, making everything easier to swap out.

What kind of struts come with that deal? If they are Infiniti parts, it is definitely a great deal. If it's just an oem replacement, then it really would depend on the manufacturer's brand name. But be careful because there's a lot of shady shops that will try to pass off cheap aftermerket oem replacement parts as Infiniti parts.

 

He didn't say he was swapping out springs. He's replacing shocks. That is way too much for that kind of work. It might be the going price, but that's entirely too much for OEM shocks and six bolts.

 

Like I said, it depends on the struts. If the shop is using aftermarket OEM parts, then the price is too high as a pair of Tokico blues for the rear cost about $100. But for Inifniti OEM, the price is actually very good as the price for those are something over $1000 all around. And for other aftermarket OEM parts, the cost go up a bit more too.

 

the quote I was given was only for the struts themselves and the labor. The total rear they wanted $688. My current rear struts are yellow in color and didn't look enough to see what brand or kind they were.

 

My car is 05. After 6 years of highway and sometimes hard driving, should I replace the springs, struts, and whatever else that's part of the suspension or just do the entire suspension on all 4?

The ride has been bouncy and rough for the last 2 years. Even my mom complains, it rides rougher than her truck. I always thought bec mine was a sportscar it was normal...but maybe not?

 

I don't think yellows are sport suspension... I'd say get Tokico D-Specs, find someone to install for a few hundred and call it a day. It will run you slightly more at about $800 total, and these struts are adjustable, so you just have to dial them in for a comfortable ride while gaining a bit of performance from them too. If you are on a budget, you can get Tokico Blues all around and labor for well under the $688 price.

 

semi off topic question...can you visually tell the difference between sport and basic suspension?
