Almost got into accident on Sunset Blvd

I saw my life flash before my eyes. But thank God for quick reflexes on my behalf and on the car's. Here's the story:

It was about 1:30 as I was driving down Sunset Blvd toward Lake Merced. I was in the middle lane. Everything was fine, beautiful day, music playing, listening to the sweet hum of my exhaust when I got near the Kirkham intersection. There's no stoplight there and I see a Camry coming down perpendicular to me on the left side trying to either make a left turn or keep going across. At first, I thought she saw the oncoming traffic and was going to stop in the middle. No. She kept going.

I swerved to the left lane, which was thankfully empty. Unfortunately, a man in a blue Corolla was not as lucky. She smashed right into him, causing him to veer off the road and smash into a stop sign. The woman in the Camry, basically ricocheted off the Corolla and drove onto the sidewalk on Sunset Blvd and proceeded to roll down until she was half a block away. I was scared ****less. If I didn't swerve, that would have been me in that accident also. I would have T-boned her, and she T-boned him, and it would have been a threesome of destruction.

I drove down about 2 blocks and made a turn and parked. Got out of the car, and smoked a cigarette. I felt like I had to do something about it. Drove back, checked if everyone was ok. Turns out the woman was from New Jersey, moved her for about a month, staying with her kids. She wasn't supposed to drive, but she didn't want to be a burden on her children, so she wanted to run errands herself. She ended up with a totaled Camry, and a bruise on her leg.

The man was more fortunate, his car was damaged, but fine. He was really cool about it. Didn't yell, didn't scream, but maintained his composure. Since he spoke primarily Chinese, I assisted in translating when the police came by and I gave my testimony as a witness.

I'm telling you, though I do trust my own driving at MOST times (lol), you can't really trust other drivers out there. It's situations like these that make you realize how precious life is. It's those split second mistakes that tell the story. I thank God for watching over me today, giving me the reflexes to avoid a near collision. I was inches away from harm today, she smashed into him right as I drove by. That's how close it was. So for everyone out there, drive safely, and watch out, you can trust yourself, but never be too trusting of others.

Glad you're OK. It was a good thing you did going back and helping out. Your awareness of your surroundings saved you; too bad more driver's don't possess that awareness. I'm always yelling at my GF 'cause I don't think she pays enough attention when she drives.

This is probaby the #1 cause of accidents here. People just think that the other party has a stop sign as well. When I come to an intersection where I have no stop I still slow down or at least cover the brake pedal.

They do post those signs saying that the cross traffic has no stop, but I think they are too small to be noticed, they should be as big as the stop sign itself.

Glad that nobody got hurt and you avoided frustrating experience of dealing with insurance/bodyshop etc.

Good job on avoiding the accident! Too many people are unaware of their surroundings and drive without being aware of it. Probably one of the leading causes of accidents. I'm glad everyone was OK, cars can be replaced, humans can't.

BASE ACURA TLX NOW WANT A G35 AGAIN THOUGH
I've seen so many accidents on Sunset Blvd.

Seriously it's always CAMRY and VOLVO drivers that scare me.
It's usually an asian lady too...being Chinese myself so ughhh.
People really don't pay attention.
Just be careful out there.
Good thing you stopped since you are a witness.

Post a pic of your car man.
I know you're in my hood.

Bobby

Sunset Blvd.....I used to go to school a few blocks from there that is the second worst street for accidents I have seen.....the first is a block from my house...19th Ave...constant pedestrian and vehicle accidents. Both of these 2 streets people run reds like crazy!!
