car was parked in front of apt in SF.. no front plate $100 ?????

What the hell is wrong with SF?!? I was parked in front of my friend's apt.. I went to sleep.. and the next morning i found a ticket on my window for no freakin plate! The cop decided he was really bored at 3:28 AM and gave out a $100 no front plate ticket. It's written on a parking citation form. This isn't even a moving violation since i wasn't even moving.. and it's definitely no parking violation either!! Is this legit or what? Can I have it signed off? Please advise..... thanks

oh yeah they don't have my vin because i covered it up.

man that really blows.. when i park my car in SF @ my gf's apt, i never got anything for not having a front plate (*knocks on wood*).. that cop must have seriously been BORED OUT OF HIS MIND.. i'm not sure what you can do, but i'm guessing you can get the license plate adapter and put on your front plate and have it signed off.. i'm not sure how procedure goes nowadays, but i did that before and still had to pay a $10 fee.. good luck..

Check the law and make sure that a car on a public road, parked is not against the law and then FIGHT IT! What if you decided to remove the plate for the night? You had a problem with the holder, or you decided to clean it cause it was dirty..........there must be a bunch of reasons we could come up with to remove your plate overnight.

BTW, the cop posted the code and section on your ticket so you can look it up!

I got a similar ticket from CHP in SF in late 04'.......$10 and some duct tape (man's best friend) behind the plastic plate holder made it go away. Call SFPD or stop by a local station and ask them to sign it off.

I've got the same ticket with my Maxima in '03 @ SF, my car was parked on the street and metered. I think the fuxxing cop pissed off since I feed the meter so he gave me something else to meet his quota!!! I put back the front liscense plate and went to SFPD, a cop nicely signed it off for me and i saved a $100

Check the back of the ticket ... it should name something with the code and section saying that it could be signed off. After you get it signed off you go to 850 bryant and pay 10 bucks to get it processed and you're done.

From what I've heard, having no front license plate is not a fix it ticket. You can probably get it reduced but not all the way down to $10 bucks.

As was mentioned above you should be able to get this signed off and pay a $10 processing fee. I like the duct tape remedy, no pesky holes in the bumper.

I got a similar ticket in the Mission area last December, I installed the plates had it signed off by the Fremont police where I live and sent them their ten dollars they asked for in the Web site, later they send me letter saying I was cleared,
Good luck !!!!
As for the plate it is still off unless I got to the City, than I just spin it onto the tow Hook.

I asked a friend of mine (a cop) regarding no front license plates and he said that SF only reinforce it more than any city in the bay because of the stop light cameras. But it is still considered a fix it ticket for $10.

Same thing happened to a buddy of mine in his EVO. The kicker was he was parked in a handicap spot (with proper handicap tags) at UCSF medical center visiting his wife who is sick. When he comes out he finds a $100 ticket for no front plate! He looked up the code and said he can get it signed off and just pay the $10. Cops must be really going out of their way to give fix it tickets to people parked at hospitals.
