Thunderhill Raceway Park 4/27/06

This post is to gauge interest in a meet at Thunderhill Raceway Park. Thunderhill Raceway Park is a 3 mile 15 turn road course about 1.5 hours north of Sacramento just off of I-5. I know that it is still a few months away, but it will give people time to plan. The event on 4/27/06 is the High Performance Driving School offered directly through Thunderhill Park. It is a safe and organized place to learn the limits of your car. Experienced instructors will teach you the proper driving line and how to handle your car at high speeds. The cost for the day is $225 which includes almost 2 hours of track time, instructors, classes, lunch, and a t-shirt. Bring a helmet or rent one at the track. This will be a fun day at the track. It is free to come out and watch if you do not feel like speeding around the track. Please post if you interested.

So far there are three people going. There are 2 Lexus IS300s and a Civic Si. I will be driving my IS since my wife is not cool with me tracking the G yet. I know that several people on this site have expressed interest in going out to Thunderhill. It would be nice to see some other G35 enthusiast out at the track.

I'd love to go, but will have to wait and see how the schedule works out since it's on a weekday. I'm already taking some time off in March to hit Laguna Seca

I can't wait to go to Laguna Seca. That is one track that I can't wait to drive. What group are you going with? What is the date and the cost?

I just notice that you are in Sac. What area do you live in?

I think I'll be doing a HPDE at Thunderhill sometime in March. Not sure through which organizer yet. Let us know how the school is. I really want to do Skip Barber or Jim Russell sometime in the near future.

I'm interested in doing one of those too, just not with my car...yet.

Doesn't Infineon have a racing school? I would be down to do this, and I bet we can get a few other locals that would sign up too.

Yeah, Infineon has Jim Russel and Laguna Seca has Skip Barber. They have programs where you don't have to use your car. Thing is the cheapest program is at least $600+. The one I really want to do is the one day combo at Skip Barber.

Costs $1395.... ouch! But I'm sure it'd give me better returns than any physical mod could.

Sounds like fun. Does anyone know if we need special brakes or tire? or can we go stock.

^^ If not a different brake kit, I would run steel braided brake lines, more aggressive pads, and higher temp brake fluid.

Expect your tires to lose quite a bit of tread.

Oh, and Mark- post up the pic you took of my car on the 101! I saw you chasing me with your camera.

Hmmm...I looked on Infineon's website and the cheapest Jim Russel driving school I saw was $3,495 for 3 days. $1,395 sounds like a bargain- where do I sign? I've been meaning to do this for years.

$1,395 is for the one day combo at Skip Barber. Click on the link I posted.

There's a forumla car one day experience at Jim Russel for $995. Jim Russell - Click Here

I'd rather do the one day combo at Skip Barber though. Sorry ISinCH, went a bit OT here.

I agree- I'd much rather learn on a street car than a Formula 1 car.

So, who is in for the Skip Barber event? I think this would make a great birthday present for myself. Wait a minute, my birthday is in September. In that case, I can give myself a Valentine's Day present.

It's cool. I am just glad to see that there are other people like me on this forum. I would love to go to one of these schools, but my racing budget is not at that level yet. I will probably stick to the HPDEs for now, but I would love to get behind the wheel of a formula car!!
