You definitely don't want to get lost in Richmond. It's worst than Oakland there, no joke.

I don't know the area all that well, but I can tell you Richmond is bad (for the most part). Can anyone provide this fellow G member with some areas they may want to consider moving? Keep in mind they will be working in Emeryville.

You should find a place in Emeryville instead, it's pretty good there. Avoid Richmond if you can help it.

Welcome to the Bay Area. You should be fine if you don't go out snooping around at night. Most importantly, be absolutely sure that a garage is available for your G.

I'm born and raised from the East Bay, primarily in Richmond. There are good and bad areas. For the most it's not that bad. I would suggest that you stay away from the railroad tracks, that is definitely the worst area. Nothing out there anyways. Since you'll be working in Emeryville you'll find mostly everything you need. Has all the nice stores, hangouts, entertainment, etc...
Good luck!

As long as you dont venture into block or two west of I-80 you SHOULD be ok. Area to avoid but not limite to, west of Richmond parkway, north of Cutting blvd, east of San Pablo ave, south of Parr/brookside, after dark? DO NOT go into area around BART station 23rd/MacDonald/Barrett/Garvin, unless you are well packed.

thanks guys. it was a short notice for me so my only way to find an apartment is through internet. all the 3 aparments (rent.com) i called in emeryville won't be available until may and some have minimum of 12 mos lease.the apartment in richmond is just next to the freeway and i'll just do what you guys say, not to venture out at night. how's el cerrito?
by the way i lived in sacramento for 5 years and then moved to connecticut and have lived here for 6 years now.

Just rent a room out in Daly City for $500... It will be a quick ride over to Emeryville in the morning but you will feel safer. You can have fun with the ricers that live there and believe that their "fart can exhaust" cars are faster than the "G" I would never live in Richmond no matter what area. With all the crime around there, they will find you.

Welcome back to the Bay Area. I would also reccomend staying away form Richmond if you can. Check out Albany, a small community adjacient to Richmond and Berkeley. Or better yet come out to my beautiful community of Walnut Creek. My apartment complex has rentals available. Only 30-40 minute commute to Emeryville.

The Iron Triangle. I think it's got one of the highest mortality rates in California or something crazy.

Edit: Side note pinnoy_g35, since you've lived in Sacto, think of the seedier parts of Richmond as similar to Oak Park or Del Paso.
