Damn Shane those are some great pics. You're the man!

I was down there last year around Xmas time and it is not ghetto. My definition of ghetto is Oakland or EPA or Richmond. San Jose on a whole has a very low crime rate per capita. I think that place in the pics looks really nice.

When you get all settled we should have a mini-meet for drinks and such. Don't worry, I won't expect an HJ unless Shane isn't there, he usually takes care of me.

wow I keep thinking steven's creek rather than winchester. that's the exact complex where my friend bought the condo at.. you took a pic of their exact unit too haha.. those are actually condos.. I guess some people bought them and now they're renting them out. nice new place. it's convenient to everything.. the mall, restaurants, and the freeways. only thing i don't like is how busy the street is but when all the windows are closed, it's pretty much silent. You're pretty much 8-10 minutes from apple. about a few exits down.

Yeah, this is a condo complex. People bought them and individual owners are renting them out. Usually you can find better deals, or you can negotiate between two owners and see who will give you the better deal. Remember owners have to pay a mortgage every month, and if they don't rent it out it's money out of their pocket. People do that all the apartment I own in San Diego.

Yea I saw that, but I'm moving into a place where I don't know anyone. My plan is to sign a 6-month lease and see if I can meet someone at work or something that I could room with. That would be soo much cheaper, but oh well...I'll pay my dues. Or see if maybe I can buy a condo up here...prices don't seem too bad.

Mini-meet for sure. I'm down for meeting some new people. Esp now that the HJ is taken care of.

Shane...again thanks for your help. I'll be sure to attend the meets, even though I may show up in a 350z roadster. I sold my G a few weeks ago.

Yeah, I recall reading that thread...probably should just buy yourself a beater for while till you settle in, maybe you will find yourself have some extra money to get something really sweet, not saying that 350z aint but something bit more...shall we say refined? like 650CI/CLK55/S6...even a Cayman

I kick it in the East Bay alot... so San Jo ghetto isn't bad to me... if you think East San Jo is bad, you would hate East 14th in Oakland...

Actually, I drove by the place tonite on my way to work downtown, and the apartment complex doesn't look bad... looks really nice... but the neighborhood... lots of cars stolen or broken in at that area. But since it's a fenced lot, you should be fine...

Awesome pics Shane, guess I won't need to take additional pictures this weekend. Hooman6MT, the complex is nice, but IMHO, I would be pretty bored in that region -- plus I think it's overpriced for what you get. Look for some places in Mountain View & palo alto, I think both of those places are more happening, closer to the city, but still close enough to work.

Hehe... I know that Taco Bell

I work down the street a ways near where Winchester crosses 85. It is a reasonable area, but the streets are fairly busy at all hours. I haven't driven down the side streets in that area much, but the neighborhood looks a bit nicer than mine in downtown San Jo.

I second that... you'll be pretty bored.. Stevens Creek Blvd is a mess of every car dealership and strip mall you can fathom... I live in Palo Alto right now and it's suburbs to hell but not as bad as SJ. Pretty yuppie tho, lots of Stanford kids, alum, rich artists, professors, professionals. I'm going to move up the peninsula pretty soon so I can be closer to SF.

Most of the neighborhoods in the bay area have low crime anyway, so I wouldn't be worried... (except East Palo Alto and Oakland). San Jose would be my last choice though. I only go there for Santana Row when I'm trying to do some shopping (the kind you do at Union Square) or get some food at Straits Cafe (delicious, I recommend)

Any complexs or areas you would recommend in the PA or MV area that are more happening. I have no idea about the areas in San Jose, and I will most likely sign a lease without looking at the place. Any help is appreciated.

i dunno man, signing a lease sight unseen sounds pretty risky. everyone's got different opinions on places. ajay doesn't think santana row is that happening, but on thurs-sat nights it gets pretty busy down there. lots of people are around around in the weekends. kurzo is right about the car dealerships and strip malls too.

with that location tho you're close to san jose and you can check out that scene pretty easily. mountain view and palo alto bars thurs-sat attract the weirdest crowds. some ppl in their early 20s all the way up to ppl in their 40s and 50s. mv in particular is just bizarre. i used to live right by downtown and i'd go check it out when my friends and i felt lazy/no one wanted to DD and it always sucked. it's just a weird mishmash most of the time. plus if you live up in palo alto/mv, you're about halfway between sf and san jose. since you're working in cupertino i'd suggest sticking with something between cupertino and san jose.

seriously consider shacking up in a hotel/motel for a couple of weeks before signing a lease to a place. otherwise you could be stuck in a really unhappy situation for a year.

Sorry... besides the few overpriced bars and maybe two clubs combined, I don't see what's so "happenning" about Palo Alto and Mountain View... Like absolutg said, Santana Row is poppin on Thurs, Fri, Sat, and a good place to kick it on the regular days/ evenings. And if that's not enough for you, downtown San Jose with tons of bars, lots of clubs, is only about 5 min away.
And one more thing...

kurzo - Straights is cool... but I think you need to walk around Santana Row more... I think there are better places to eat there...

Hooman, seriously, the drive between SF to party and that area in San Jose is not bad... not to mention all the bars and clubs in Downtown San Jose, and Valley Fair Mall and Santana Row being in the area. The area you're looking at isn't bad... but living off of Winchester Ave can suck.
