FYI - I-405 Southbound Closing in August
The DOT will be removing the Wilburton Tunnel in the South Bellevue area of I-405. The Wilburton tunnel spans a 360 foot section of southbound I-405 between downtown Bellevue and the I 405/I 90 interchange.
As a part of the I-405 Corridor Program, WSDOT is widening I-405 between 112th Avenue SE and SE 8th Street to make room for more travel lanes. The tunnel must go to make room for these extra lanes.
To safely remove the tunnel, WSDOT crews need to close southbound I-405 from SE 8th Street to I-90 in Bellevue for three weekends in August. The closures will take place from 11 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday on the following weekends:
• August 8 - August 11
• August 15 - August 18
• August 22 - August 25
Bellevue stores and restaurants will be open for business during the closures. If possible, please delay or reschedule unnecessary trips, use main city roads instead of freeways, carpool, or take the bus.
