if you live in tacoma be careful...

my girlfriend goes to massage school at night in tacoma, near freight house square i believe. last night on her way home she called me telling me something was wrong with her truck, a 96 toyota tacoma 4x4, and it was really loud. when she gets to my house i look under it to find that her exhaust had been cut all the way through behind the cat and 3/4 the way through before the cat. the only thing that stopped them from getting it completely off was the cut in the front was at an angle and started to cut into the flange, which is heavy gauge steel, not normal exhaust pipe. luckily all she had to do was get it welded back together and buy a couple new hangers for the cat cause bothof those had been cut also. just a warning to those of you with trucks that live or work in tacoma, be careful where you park and watch your vehicle. talking to the guy at the exhaust shop, he was saying catalytic converters can go for around $125 used. fantastic world we live in. can't people just sell drugs to make easy money like the old days?

catalytic converters contain a piece of platinum inside, IIRC

My co-worker had her catalytic converter cut off and stolen out of her truck from a park and ride in Renton about 2 weeks ago. Seems that the trucks are easy to crawl under.

Someone needs to get shot.

This is becoming a rampant event here in the Northwest. Especially here in the 253. I heard they sell them to the recycle guys for 30-45 bucks. These recyclers need to stop taking these in so these guys could stop stealing them!

This just happened to my friend's old truck that they park right on the street by their house. Started it up one day and it was insanely loud. Look underneath, and no cat!

I have a buddy that is a Sheriff here in Spokane (still trying to have him get me a green bear sticker for my rear window ) and he said that the majority of these thieves are meth addicts looking for a quick buck, using battery operated sawsalls to remove them usually.

Another thing he said is that the recyclers have been informed of this growing situation and are required to call in the part numbers of any converters which then go into a database that has victim's make and model of vehicle to attempt to identify them. So hopefully in time this won't be as much of an issue anymore.

He said the same thing happened with copper wire from construction sites a couple years ago....
