Gears :) reposting

I know there quite a few threads on the topic, but I wasn't really able to confirm a few things. Would greatly appreciate if you gurus could throw out your 2 cents. Neverbonestock claimed only a 200 rpm difference between his stock 3.69 gears and his 4.083 gears. Truth to this comment? I was told it was more like 600 rpms. Also, has anyone swapped out completely, rear diffs? I'm in the process of trying to swap rear diffs between my buddy's 08 Z (HR) and mine. His 4.08 gears have about 7k on them. Install was done right - no whining, etc.. I know the abs sensor harnesses are different (planning to swap), but any clue on if it'll bolt directly? I've read around that a G35 and 350Z are a direct swap, as are G35 to G37s.

By the way, anyone know if the vlsds in the Z are "better" than the ones in the G's? G37 sedan in particular?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

You swapping pumpkins or just the gears? I've heard that some diff swaps inbetween the HR and VQs are direct w/o needing to remove the gears

Whoops...! Swapping pumpkins. His pumpkin already has the 4.08 gears. That's good news ...huge burden off my back!

Any thoughts of the Z's VLSD being "better"...? Some value of 0.5 (Z) versus the G's 0.7? I have no idea what these values refer to. Just numbers I saw being thrown around.

Thanks JEFF

Eric

Check first about the swap. Some HR pumpkins have a rod sticking out of the output shaft of the diff that needs to be cut/dealt with. Dig the drivetrain section here for info

^ looks like it's going to be a direct swap. the only issue i see fore coming are the abs sensors. on the Z, the abs sensors come off the pumpkin, one from each side, and then merge into one, and plug into one harness, where as on the 37, the abs sensors plug in independently.

someone suggested just using one of the harnesses...not sure how that'll work out...
