Test

Hey everyone! I'll be picking up my 2006 G Coupe next Friday and want to start modding ASAP. Just wanted to see how active Columbus is as far as G's are concerned. I'm looking to get some paintwork done in the near future. Are there any reputable shops other than the two listed in the stickied thread?

Thanks!

This thread was designed to showcase those shops each of us have used before. Our cars themselves show the work of those shops, like Dals and Tom's. I went to Rife's after my car was hit only because it was the only shop Infiniti of Columbus uses and I wanted to make sure they could color match the car properly. They did an excellent work and they do garuntee their work for the life of the car while you own it.

What kind of mods are you looking to do? Maybe if you make a list we can help, make suggestions and tell you what we know from our experiences. We have a few heavily modded cars, several regular and a few minor mods-all with positive and negative experiences with the local shops around Ohio.

We are having a install meet and wash (weather pending on the wash part) at the VP of the Club's house this Saturday...it could be a good chance for you to see some of the cars and ask the questions in person.

Welcome to the club!

Here's what I have in mind:

Debadge trunk (except Mt. Fuji)
Paint roof black
paint inside of headlights black
Paint grille black
19" 5-spoke wheels w/ a lip

Possible mods (mostly depends on funds):
Replace rear bumper (chargespeed looks sweet)
Replace front bumper
Cat-back exhaust
Subs + custom g35 box

I'm open to just about anything that's not going to break the bank...I'm a student at Ohio State and can't afford to have a heavily modded car. What are some popular, practical, and cost-effective mods?

I don't really know what kind of labor goes into putting on a rear/front bumper, but I'd like to try to do that kind of stuff myself...my last car was only minimally modded:

Debadge trunk (except Mt. Fuji) - I will be doing the same thing
Paint roof black - any paint job should be done carefully over time, not a rattlecan job at a meet

paint inside of headlights black - I want to do this as well, but again it takes time
Paint grille black - I want to do this as well, but again it takes time
19" 5-spoke wheels w/ a lip - rims are easy to replace, just get them balanced properly and aligned at a place like NTB

Possible mods (mostly depends on funds):
Replace rear bumper (chargespeed looks sweet) - unless used, expect to pay about 5-600 for a poly bumper, and another 2-300 to paint match
Replace front bumper - unless used, expect to pay about 5-600 for a poly bumper, and another 2-300 to paint match
Cat-back exhaust - Used you can find a good exhaust for around 800+, a new system like HKS TD or Motordyne TDX2 will run you 1600+
Subs + custom g35 box - I believe the custom box for our cars is the Zenclosure or the 1040 box which is more discrete than the zenclosure

Engine performance mods are decent on your car, I have an 06 as well.

1. Motordyne port and polishes a lower collector and redubs it "MREV2" which provides solid gains when combined with their 5/16" spacer
2. Motordyne 5/16" copper iso thermal spacer (same one above, but since we live in ohio, get the copper one)
3. Changing gtube to ztube, keep original airbox (unless you have to have a CAI)
4. Delete catalytic converters, change to High flow cats or test pipes to improve air flow
5. Tune (most expensive but $/hp is probably the best

With spacer, mrev2, Injen CAI, test pipes + tune = 275 whp confirmed by Rambo

Horsepower of a G37 with test pipes, exhaust, intake + tune = 270whp confirmed by Ben our VP

Spacer, mrev2, pop charger, test pipes, with NO tune = 240 hp and laughter from your peers as a stock g35 puts 247 down on the dyno a minute later

Moral of the story, don't buy performance mods if you aren't going to tune the car to bring it all together... lol

Actually Tom at the time of my intiall tune I was at 300. I need to get time to take it back to Corey so he can put it back on the dyno and figure out whats wrong.
