Yet another trip to the dealer

Well this is the third time the car has gone into the shop. First time they said they couldn't figure it out. Second time they replaced a HVAC sensor. I also complained of a slight ticking in the morning for about 30 sec until the car heats up. They told me its an exhaust leak and I don't doubt them...they just don't know where it is coming from.

A little background on this third trip and I am not sure if it has anything to do with what is going on or not. Last sunday the wife and I worked on giving the car a good wash. I decided to use an engine cleaner to clean the engine bay even though it really isn't all that bad. The next day, the wife did some running and drove to work. On the way there, the car started hesitating, idling rough, and even kind of backfiring. I ran out to her work to check it and wondering if somehow water got into the gas, I put in some heet and filled up the gas tank. On the way home she said it was the same and it finally threw a code. It did get a little better when I took it out the next day but it was still hesitant at low rpm. I took it over to my father in law who owns a auto shop and he ran the code...#6 misfire. Seeing as it is still under warranty, I took it back to the dealer. Now it has been there all day friday, the weekend and when I called this afternoon they said they were waiting from a call back from Nissan tech service (the same thing they told me Friday) WTH are they thinking could be wrong? My guess is bad spark plug or coil.

call ben about it...he had the same issue with his 37 with the tick and it was the variable valve programing for the exhaust side. after the reflash, it went away. I thought it was an exhaust leak as well.

Mine was doing it for awhile. I think it was only on the 08s . You definately need to get it in for the backfireing. If they fix it my advise is to rewash it to make sure its good now. Call me or text me if ya have any other questions.

Thanks guys! I will let you know what I find out. I just hope none of the internals are slightly damaged to the point that they can't tell or dont feel the need to replace and then it rear its ugly head later on down the road. Luckily I have a 100,000 mile drive train warranty on the thing. It makes me really nervous to mod the car though for fear of voiding the warranty.

If you get the uprev tune it might help this issue, plus it wouldn't mess with the warranty since you can switch everything back to stock

Ok so the dealership finally called me this afternoon. Told me that it was from low octane/bad gas and that they reprogrammed the ecu. I did have a dumb moment and put 1/2 a tank of 87 in the car before I caught myself. I wasn't sure about that but I guess they are the experts. I was not able to get over to pick the car up until after the service department was closed. On the way home the same hesitation/bad idle "magically" reapeared. I feel like I am getting the run around and they just dont feel like dealing with me. I want to go to another dealer, but I understand that sometimes it takes a few times to get things figured out so I may just let the original dealer figure it out. It is just really frustrating. I guess I will give them a call and see what they have to say.

i doubt the dealership is trying to give you the run around, Because they also want to fix the problem to get you out of their hair also. Take it another time and if they cannot figure it out then try another dealership. GL

I'm sure you are right. I run a plumbing company and I know what it is like to have an issue that can't be solved on the first try. It's frustrating for all parties.

That being said, I called them this morning and asked if I could bring it in around lunch and have one of their techs ride with me. Wouldn't you know it, the car ran freaking perfect! They told me they did a lot of different things with the ECU and that it had to work out the kinks. On the way home it was hesitating a little, but nothing like before so hopefully this is behind me now. I felt like such an *** lol.

My dad bought his FX from Bedford and hasn't ever had any issue. Every time he has it serviced, they bring him a G down to drive and take the FX back up and it is over an hour away. I think he pays a little more for this service but not that much. He bought the '03 FX new from there so that may have something to do with his good luck.

If you have a basic service issue like brakes or an oil change that dealer might be fine. Although I’m sure your dad doesn’t have any performance mods on his FX, which reiterates my point that Bedford of Infiniti is clueless to performance issues. Plus, they just lost their best service tech to Airport Infiniti within the last couple of months. I was highly disappointed in their ability to service my car. You should see how they installed my under engine shield, they screwed plastic into plastic. The entire thing off after they did it. Oh and they couldn’t fix my oil line after charging me $750 to fix it. I could go on and on about the terrible support and service I got from them.

ahhh yeah my dad hasn't done any performance mods to his although I should try talking him into going FI on it lol. Twin Turbo FX FTW!!! Airport Infiniti is a much nicer dealership as far as appearance and the amount of cars they have on the lot. I haven't dealt with them at all personally though.
