Yes, I'd say it was worth buying it back. Especially as my cousin-in-law specialises in rebuilding write-offs
I think I'll probably end up spending all the insurance money but I could have put it back exactly as original and still had money in my pocket, cos mine was unmodded to begin with. The repairer the insurance company wanted to use was going to pretty much replace the whole of the front end with new parts, even down to the twin horns (which were untouched in the prang) and the bonnet seal . I was sure from the outset, after looking at the parts list, that I'd be in pocket so I decided to make some mods. Carbon bonnet, 6 pot AP Racing front brakes, new Impul front bumper, Angel Eye front fogs, clear corners and upgraded air intake kit. Oh! And a polyester car cover
Can't wait to see it finished. Then I'm saving for the rear bumper kit. Probably go for the Kenstyle.

TOM!!....
JustJ from 6mt here (John). Was thinking of you not that long ago so thought I would troll you 350GTers section across the pond.

Very shocked to hear what has happened. Last I knew you were still in your build. So sorry to hear and surprised they totaled it with just rear quarter damage.

Airsoft...sorry to hear of your mishap as well. Damn street light poles jumping out in front of you...quite annoying eh? Again somewhat surprised yours was deemed a total as well.

Seems it doesn't take much to total these cars. Here in the States they total them too with not that much damage

So few of you chaps with 350GT's there. Best of luck to you both on your repairs and glad no one hurt.

Cheers

-John

Hi John,

good to hear from you. Yes got 'T' boned but anyhow i got my insurance payment last week and have already bought my charge speed body kit and junction produce wheels. I am in touch with my contacts in Japan who are trying to sort me a 2004 black 6mt premium car graded 5A, i just have to be patient. I can only go up to 2004 as i need a car with a DE engine and not HR as i will be putting the engine i had built into it.
Hows your car have you had any recent mods done ? Hope you wasn't near them storms you had over there this week

Stu,

Rob,

keep at him i am helping out a new owner on the skyline owners site so i will point him here as well. It would be nice to get around twenty or so posters here.

Good to hear $$ already in your pocket. Really!?!? VQ35DE's only up to 2004?
Here they used DE up through 2007 coupes and 2007 was first year for the HR in the sedans only. 2007 was first year here also with HR in the 350Z (Z33). Maybe different with Japan spec V35 and Z33's.

My coupe's been good. Minor accident while at Dealer on the passenger rear quarter panel (7+ dents) but they fixed...long story as how it happened. Got some very good compensation for their screw-up, but still rather pissed off about it, being body not pure anymore.

No mods recently. Got many modules from a KP Technologies, just haven't installed yet. Eyeballing Cusco upper front A-arms and they just came out with rear toe and camber control arms. Engine: had oil consumption issues since day one new. Finally a TSB released that qualifies me for a new VQ35DE hand built from Japan. Almost done with consumption testing then dealer will order new VQ.

Yes, storms were beating us rather hard here, but nothing like two years ago when all the creeks and rivers flooded our area. Southern California always have mud slides from the fires they have every summer. I'm Northern California.

Hi mov and welcome. Just checked out your vid. Christ you were lucky. Hope your female passenger wasn't too shaken up . I've seen a similar vid of a 350GT losing it on exactly the same bend but in the dry. Did you get fined? Some drivers have had huge bills after hitting the barrier and causing the track to be temporarily closed.
Have you got a big brake kit fitted?
Hope you're enjoying being a 350GT owner.

Andy

Hi John, thanks for your concern. Yeah, it came as a huge shock when the insurance company totalled it. All it has needed is Radiator & Mounting Assembly, Ali Cross Member, Energy Absorber, Undertray, Bonnet, Front Fender inc. Grille, and a few brackets, hoses & bulb holders. The original quote from the official repairers was £8500 just for parts. When I contacted Nissan to ask if they'd give me the same list of parts and prices, it only came to £7500. But the list included every front end part including twin horns, which were still intact after the accident. Crazy! I've got the list down to about £3000.

Just had a shock...my new fender, clear corners & car cover have just arrived at the airport and the vat, import duty, handling & delivery to my door has totalled £385. Yet another expence I could do without.

Soon be back on the road though

I've got one major issue I need to sort. AP Racing are making me a set of big front end brakes but they are having trouble finding me a hose kit to suit the connections on the 350GT. Any suggestions guys?

Hey Andy,
Import duty... ...everyone wants a piece of the pie when they can.

Very short story...I promise...
Friend with a 2005 6mt lost it on some twistie roads. Bounce around a bit, tore up his under carriage minor, bent some suspension components small amount and they TOTALED IT!! It was all easily replaceable/repairable

AP Racing issue.
I'm surprised of the brake line issue. JDM to USDM spec can't be that different, if at all. Stillen here sells AP Racing and believe they sell lines with those too. www.stillen.com
You tried researching JDM BBK manufactures? Lots of USDM G35's sport JDM for V35's along with their brake lines and fluid. They're plug and play with no custom mods needed.

may be the same vid i posted it on the uk skyline forum last year it cost me 450 for the armco and 300 to have the bumper rebuilt, funny thing is i was flying round the track the day before but with it raining i was just doing a sighting lap and it is running on standard brakes xtrail rears altima fronts £55 the full set found that out after paying £500 to import the same ones
i do a lot of touring in europe and to be honest once i had it delimited (ncs systems will fit a can-bus interface £200) its the best car i have driven its a real head turner

Andy,
For those brake hoses just go onto 350zukownersclub.com they will point you in the right direction. Like John i can't see why APR don't supply them, did they look under infiniti g35 or skyline 350gt ?
Wish i knew you was bringing stuff in that was import duty and vat sensitive, there are ways and means !!!

Welcome Mov,
Its a bit slow here but we are slowly growing in numbers, with the good weather on the way others will be chipping in soon. I think a meet will deff happen this year. I think 10-15 350gt's will turn a few heads.
I was in New Cross yesterday and saw a pearl white one with black wheels, i couldn't believe it.

BTW i should introduce John (06cpv35). He and a few others helped me out big time when what seemed ages ago i imported my 350gt, i think it was only the third one registered in this country so their information was second to none as not even Nissan main dealers knew anything about the car.

Stu,

Come on seasons sarted lets have you back on these boards i want to know what your gonna do next , have you got a kit yet ? you have been umming and arring for ages, make your mind up !!!!! LOL

Tom

^ Ahh shucks Tom...thanks for those kind words
Got a soft spot for you guys across the pond being I'm 0.5 Scottish 0.25 English and 0.25 Irish Plus if I can help, I'm always cordial to enthusiasts.

No doubt you few have your resourses there, but just to let you know, friend of mine who was the regional supplier in JDM for Northern California moved down south to Los Angeles and is now on board with Bulletproof Automotive. Bulletproof does nothing but JDM and can get just about anything from Japan for our Nissans. Let me know if I can help you guys and I'll contact my friend there or give you all the contact info

Hi Tom, thanks for the tip.

I didn't know there was a way round paying import duty, etc.

Hi again John. Nice to know someones on our side. It's been a long uphill struggle from start to finish. From getting insurance to buying parts. It's the only thing putting me off owning one of these fantastic motors. It seems that any performance car specialist I speak to is so keen to get my business until they realise what car I've got.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a bridge (like those long ones over the water near Tampa, Florida) between the UK & USA, we could drive over and see you at one of the G35 meets . It would probably have to be an unrestricted road (ie no speed limits)
