WTB[MidWest]: 08 G35x sedan high output alternator
08 G35x sedan high output alternator
Looking to buy a higher output alternator for my 08 G35x sedan. I have a digital Alpine mrx 2500 amplifier running on half power, to a 15" Sundown sub. I have replaced 3 oem alternators in 4 yrs. Actually they have been 1 cheapo alternator refurbished, and one oem used alternator from u pull yard. I keep being told 14.5 amps from the Alpine amp shouldnt matter. Well 3rd one in 4 yrs approx?? Any Great wisdom or fix, without spending $500.00 on alternator???anyone have high output for sale f
Probably not the alternator, it should definitely be able to hold an extra 15 amps, especially during the summer when you aren't running things like the heated seats.
I suspect you have a bad ground connecting the engine to chassis or chassis to battery. Even a little bit of resistance (ohms) causes hell on alternators.
There is an engine to chassis bonding jumper on the timing chain cover that goes down to the chassis, not totally sure about the V36 chassis but the V35 (earlier G35) it connects right in front of the passenger/right side tire in the engine bay, should be a 2-hole lug bolted to the chassis. Completely unbolt the wire, use a wire brush and thoroughly clean the lug, the chassis, and the bolt (including threads), apply a thin layer of electrical anti-oxidation grease and bolt it back together.
Hit the engine lug (timing chain cover)
Other end of that wire
Battery negative
Other side of the battery negative
Brush/DEOX everything.
Also clean up the alternator primary wire back to the battery, both ends.
